Evangelicals are dangerous fanatics. They are the Christian equivalent of Al-Qaida. If they aren't as keen on suicide bombing, I think that has a lot more to do with our relatively comfortable and privileged democratic culture. (In "Jesus Camp" you see exactly how militant they are; and in fact they do occasionally bomb abortion clinics etc.)
But read "Letter to a Christian Nation." Unfortunately, "moderate" Christians - just like "moderate" Muslims in Iraq - function as a sort of buffer between general society and religious extremism. They allow radical interests to pursue their agenda under the veil of the assumed respectability of religion. It happens in democratic America primarily through the medium of politics - how do you think we wound up with W?

Unfortunately there are those TV evangelist that have fallen into the belief that it has to be sensational and fantastic or people won't watch. They seem to have lost focus on why they are preaching the Gospel.
However, praying over chairs and equipment isn't "out there" as you call it. It is simply a prayer asking God to move in the lives of the people that will sit in those chairs in a way that is significant to them. It is a spiritual way of making sure that everything that can be done has been done so that those that attend can receive all that God has for them.
As for speaking in tongues, that is a genuine gift of the Holy Spirit that again has been misused and abused by many. But just because some have abused it does not make it less holy. It after all is a gift of God to the Church (See I Corinthians Ch. 12) Everthing just needs to be done in order and to bring honor to God, not to any man.

I have never seen this movie before. However, I would imagine it was every bit as inaccurate as it was biased. If you are a christian then you should fully understand that Christ gave the commission to teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. This is evangelism. An evangelist by definition is someone who preaches the good news to lost souls. I don't push my views upon people but I do share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them. Many have been converted while others rejected the Gospel.

I'm only tired of evangelists when they propagate the notion that all Christians are Protestant Fundamentalists. As a Catholic, I also have issues with certain evangelicals who push a blatantly anti-Catholic agenda (and you can substitute many different groups for "Catholic" here, because we're certainly not the only group getting slammed by them on a regular basis). But I do believe in religious freedom, and people can believe whatever they want to. However, they would be unrealistic to not expect opposition when they go around painting Christianity as something that is offensive, bigoted and narrow-minded. The second you criticize, them, though, you can count the seconds until their persecution complex kicks in.
Speaking in tongues is considered a sign, among certain Christian groups, of an indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

absolute to the two. i do in comparison to people calling me a fool in basic terms for being a Christian, or calling me ignorant because of the fact i'm no longer. I additionally think of that each now and then that is warranted because of the fact some christians on right here act like ignorant fools. additionally i hit upon it impolite while Christians call atheists ignorant fools. only on account which you disagree with somebody would not cause them to ignorant or a fool. all and sundry believes as they so %, and many times they have a marvelous clarification for it. some people on right here would desire to loosen up.

I didn't see the show, so I can't comment on it. But, it's normal to pray that an event goes well. Pray that lives are touched and all systems work in order. Speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit. It's not required of Christians, but is certainly possible. Pretending to speak in tongues, or mimicking tongues is wrong.
As for extremists and fanatics in general, yes, they are revolting.

As for "Jesus" campers, those 'InJesus', such Groupies,
perhaps them all missed reading what's in Romans 16:17
MARK & AVOID them which cause "divisions"! HELL-O!

"Jesus": "division" and not peace: Mt10:34; Lk12:51; Jn7:43
"Christ": "peace" and not dividead: Jn14:27; 1Cor; Eph 2:14

If you go to their camp, what makes you think that they won't push their views on you? If you don't like what they are doing you are free to leave. It's like going to someone's house and being questioned about your beliefs, if you don't like it just leave.
Now, if only Jesus Camp was the only place they were to push their beliefs on others at.
