I've been giving thought to getting a dog. The largest I would go is 75lbs. What oppinions do the ladies have as to a cool dog for a single guy?

I have owned dogs all my life until I joined the Navy and now that I'm out am able to get one again. I am looking to get a dog as companion and only asking this question to have an idea. Maybe get some information on breeds I haven't thought about.
I gave some basics about myself to try to portray my personality and style.
I love animals and am not getting the dog just to impress girls. It is a really good way to get them though:)
Great for the beach.

Now, I'm answering your question, but don't get a dog just for girls. To send a dog to the pound because later on you realise it's too much for you, or because you are tired of it is a bullshi* thing, and I hope you wouldn't do that. There's my disclaimer, lol.

Whenever I see a guy with a little toy dog, I think he's either gay or walking his gf's dog. Don't get a dog shorter than a large housecat, ever. Also, you probably don't want one that you have to take to the groomers to get it's fur trimmed or anything else to make it look right. (Think cocker spaniels, etc.)

In no particular order, here are the dogs I would recomend:

English Bulldogs are cool for guys. They aren't huge, and they don't need a lot of exercise, so they are easy to take care of, but can be stubborn. They are cute dogs in a real manly sort of way, and I would expect a guy walking one to probably have a good sense of humor. Plus, short hair so you don't have a lot of trouble grooming him. Just keep him clean, and put a sweater or something on him in winter if he is going to be outside. Winston (after Winston Chruchill) would be an awesome name for a bulldog.

Siberean Huskies are really cool, IF you can take care of them. They are always so friendly, they are "pretty" enough a girl is gonna melt over it, and are just really fun dogs to have. And even though they have long fur, they aren't hard to groom. Just keep them clean (they don't realy ever smell, unless you have skunks around), and you don't have to worry about trimming their fur ever. They do shed, twice a year, and it is a lot. Also, unless you train him, and unless you exercise him, you'll have trouble. They have to have exercise every single day, and you have to make sure they come when you call. (Oh, and whatever your training method is, if it involes yelling or rolled up newspapers, it won't work on a husky. Your dog will just laugh at you.) If you like to jog, this dog will be perfect. You'll look really atheletic with him in the park. I would definitely go up to a guy with a husky.

A German Shepard is cool too. Long fur, and shedding, but, like huskies, the only thing you realy ever have to do is give them a bath to keep them looking nice. Real manly, they are super smart and can learn a ton of tricks to keep the girls hanging out once they come over to talk. They are loyal, smart, protective, and good looking. All the things girls like to see in their guys!

Last one, a beagle. So cute, and so funny, this dog is gonna look and act like a puppy until it is old. Of course, it will also bark non-stop at night and the whole day you are gone if you don't remember to to take him for a run at least once a day. And hey, they can find anything. My mom's old boyfriend had taught his to find stuff he hid, and it would find the remote and his keys for him when he lost them. Also, they are totally wash and wear dogs, lol.

Any one of them will look cool sitting next to you in your Jeep.

Well, if you really want to impress the ladies....go to a shelter and rescue one...a mutt, a puppy, who cares....pick one with a good back story...or make a story up about how you got your new best friend....that will melt the ladies' hearts!

But really, if you are looking for a certain breed to buy from anywhere else...I would not go with a little dog..anything 40lbs or less does not strike me as manly. What kind of a man owns a Poodle or a Terrier? A GAY one!

I guess the 75lb limit rules out classic guy's favs. like a Lab or Retriever. I have a German Shep. and he is the smartest dog I have ever seen...very fun dog...but he is a little more that 80lbs, I think.

Don't go with the Pitbull...they are too popular with all the ghetto people and certain redneck types. Seems like you would have something to prove. English Bulldog has too many health problems.

I guess I'll go with the Boxer. But if you go with that one...be prepared to spend ALOT of time with it because they are full of energy and require extra attention and rigorous, daily exercise. Good luck!

A really cool dog is a German Shorthair Pointer.
Second on the list is the "wind-up toy" as far as
being obedient is the Golden Retreiver. By far the
second is the most wonderful companion and loves
ladies. The GSP loves you alone..

Hands down, it's a Great Dane. Personally I prefer the Harlequin Great Danes. (Black and White) These dogs are like giant babies, they're silly and attract quite alot of attention from everyone. They are seldom seen and makes them quite a chic magnet or a man magnet... which ever one you desire. Trust me... I will always have a great dane for the rest of my life. Once you have one, you'll see why. Scooby Doo and Marmaduke are right on the money about a great dane!!!
They're the most fun with a dog you'll ever have.

My answer for you would be a smaller female yellow lab. The female yellow labs have a tendency to be a bit smaller around 70-75 lbs and they are great campanions. I have owned labs all my life and will own nothing more! I hope this helped you some! : )

Hey, I know you said 75 lbs is your max but I think most women are sort of afraid of dogs that big. I suggest a cocker spaniel or collie. They are good natured, train easily, and women always fall for the "cute" dog thing (especially true of a spaniel)

Best wishes

Maybe an English Bulldog or a Golden Retriever.

Sorry, but you should be picking a breed based on other considerations -- not how "cool" you think it makes you look. Your pet may be with you for many years and it is a commitment you should take seriously. Dog breeds are the result of selecting for specific traits, therefore different breeds have different temperaments, different strengths and weaknesses.

I would say a Jack Russell Terrier, or a Bull Dog. They are awesome, and smart dogs! I have both, and absolutely LOVE them... But remember JRTs are VERY energetic, so if you don't have enough time to spend with it, I would stick with the Bull Dog.

For a larger dog, I would say a Great Dane. (Just to let you know..... Great Danes love to sleep in YOUR bed! Lol)

Good luck!

You should defintely consider getting a big strong dog like a german shepard, chocolate lab, or golden retriever... it depends on what you want
if you want a loving dog it's the retriever...
something to protect you it's the german shepard
