Don't want to gross ya'll out but you can also get a kind of waxy build up that plugs and forms that 'ball'. Rather like a clogged pore.

that ball of skin is where you ear was pierced. since you haven't worn it in a long time the hole that was there has closed. but that ball of skin is what formed when you had to leave the ear ring that you had originally put in your ear...i think i had to leave mine in for like 6 weeks. and that is so that ball can form so if you leave your ear ring out for a couple days that the hole would not close up right away.

Sounds to me like where ever you got your ears pierced before, didn't do it 'totally' correct. It is scar tissue, witch is the same thing you would get if you fell and scraped your knee. It will be there for ever unless you get it sugically removed. My sister had the same problem. Good Luck!

That is scar tissue in your ear known as a keloid. I always heard that they never go away, but I had one once and it went away in a few months

Its scar tissue that formed to heal the hole. I'm sure many people have them who let a piercing heal.

I do, it's completely normal. Just a small skin growth.
