Yes they do. Wolves in the wild will often take a bone after they make a kill and will chew on it. It is one of their natural instincts becasue it also helps to wear down tartar. It also probably tastes meat.

My dog likes bones because he likes the smell, he likes the taste, and he needs something to chew.

However, I don't give him bones because my vet said that bones can hurt a dog's teeth, or can break into sharp pieces that are bad. Also, you really don't need to encourage most dogs to eat, by giving them meaty bones. So, I give my dog hard rubber toys... and carrots (!!!) to chew on. At first he didn't like carrots, but I kept giving him little pieces, and now he looks forward to this after-dinner snack.

Yes. I don't know why you are asking this, but if its because you want to give your dog a bone, then go ahead. But make sure it's raw because cooked bones tend to splinter.

well, I would imagine that they would prefer there be meat on the bones to begin with! my dog would..

but I would assume they enjoy bones to gnaw on them. however, i don't give my dog real bones. they can splinter and otherwise be harmful to your dog.

Yes, why else would they chew on them all the time? It satisfies a biological need they have to chew on things. And it helps puppies who are teething.
