I have never been to or had a school or college prom and l would love to be involved in organising one. How should I get started and is it worth it? Just any tips or experiences please.

First you are going to have to estimate the cost of all of this.
You are going to have to look for a place to hold this event at, decorations, catering, band or dj services, etc.

Then you want to see who you can involve. Do you want to invite friends only? Is it for a club or organization? Is it open to the public?

Advertising and letting people know is the next step. If it is open to the public, how, how much, where and when you are going to sell tickets is also crucial. You also want to check and see if you need special permission from anybody.

There are more steps involved, but that is where to start.

You shouldn't! There is a reason "Proms" are during High School. They are little kid parties. Instead try to get a smaller formal dinner party together among your friends. Who the hell wants to spend the night hanging out with a bunch of strangers?

Hmm, I remember our freshman class had a dorm formal. It wasn't very fun because no one knew each other from the other dorms (we had about 20 dorms total). It was segregated, people were uncomfortable in their dresses and suits, and a lot of people didn't go because the cost of the tickets, outfits, and dinner was just too much to shell out for one night. Remember, college kids are poor. They would rather go to a foam or a frat party.
