Russia has not been to friendly with us lately but this was random... Russia says if Iran doens't stop its nuclear program immediately like the UN says that they are going to cut off giving them the fuel necessary to continue with thier weapons enrichment program.

Why did this happen? Did Iran reneg on their debt to Russia? Or is Russia genuinely displeased with Iran's non-compliance? Any thoughts on this?

And please no comments like "OMG its another WMD scare" because it is recognized bythe UN as well as everywhere else that Iran is making nuclear weapons, iran has announced it, its no secret so please stop citing old news.

Also, Russia has said they would give them everything they needed to create nucelar power if they would put the plants on Russian territory so they can make sure no nukes are being made and Iran says no it has to be private, which means it is obviousely not energy they seek.

@ Say what…

"I don't trust Russia either. I don't think it's the money owed, but it's a power thing. I personally think we should let Israel do Iran in. "

I agree, I dont trust Russia and especially not Putin. The cold war was a hand of poker and they just folded, but the game continues and the next round is coming up soon. We should just let Israel take the damage for this and let them nuke Iran lol, thats what Iran does doesn't it, fight by proxy?
If Iran had a nuke it would give it to hezbollah and have them drop it so Iran doesnt get all the blame.

It is a payment dispute. The Russians will sell anything to whoever can pay for it.

Once Iran gets caught up on their payments you will see the Russians back working on the reactor.

Russia has its own interests, which are primarily the enrichment of its ruling class.

Although nominally a democracy and interested in peace and human rights, think of them as the kind of society that existed in North America in the Roaring Twenties.

It's all about money, and social justice is something that will come later.

They are willing to tolerate iran being a bucnh of punks, but they know that iran with nuclear weapons is VERY bad for business.

The last things the corrupt billionaires of Moscow need is conflict with America over a bunch of Third world idiots.

The Iranians will learn to play nice or not even the money grubbing Russians will back them.

Sometimes you just have to love the Capitalist system.

It works, even for the wrong reasons!

Personally I think its a little bit of both. Russia has been getting quite a bit of bad press with their human rights regression and to continue forward with support Iran's quest for nuclear weapons is not the smartest path to go down. Even though Russia's economy is picking up, they still cannot afford to supplement Iran's quest for middle east dominance. I think Iran is more fragile than they would like us to believe.

I just had another thought. This may be the safe face excuse to stop the production that Iran has been looking for. Damn those dastardly Russians!!!!

If what is left of a power structure in Russia told me to do anything I would laugh(except the criminals). They have a bit of old technology that is available to the highest bidder. This bluff is purely a political issue to make the west be on Russias side. Russia has joined the ranks of all of the other eastern European countries and many of them can be considered third world or in revolt. Hopefully the world will settle down in the next 20 years because there is noone left to fight except your own brothers.

According to Russia, Iran has defaulted on payments.
My guess is that it isn't because Iran is broke, but they know that they will be discontinuing this program due to international pressure, (and the North Korea-like rewards that they will be getting for doing so), and don't want to waste $$.

They are denying in our faces but you know as well as I do, they are giving them to China to give to Iran so Russia's hands are clean again.OK, let's look back a bit at Russia's history, they are back stabbers. They gave japan all these war planes and told them to bomb us, then said, "we never told them to do anything." Some country found Russian guns and nukes in Afghanistan and Russia said, "we didn't know they worked." Why do they have to hide all their high powered subs and when they sink no one but themselves or a semi neutral country can help them bring it up?

Somehow our interests and theirs must coincide. I didn't see this coming, either. i assumed they were making money so it was OK with them.

I am very wary of Putin, to say the least, but this is a welcome development. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled.

Good question!
