Take it away from her and let her cry. Or you can let her fall asleep with it, then take it when it falls out of her mouth. when she wakes up for it, hopefully she will fall back to sleep without it. eventually she will not come to depend upon it.

Take it away. She'll cry for a while, and you just have to deal with it. Just dont break down and give it back. 2.5 is too old for a pacifier, and is really at the point where your child can be messing up their teeth (as well as speech development). A little crying wont hurt her, and will only last a night or two. Try to divert her with a stuffed animal or something like that.

My son loved his pacifier, I was so afraid to get rid of it because I could never stand when he would cry for any reason. I finally took it away when he was a little over 1yrs old and it was really hard, but he only cried for a night or two and then he forgot all about it. I hope you have support of a spouse or loved one to get you through those nights, it really helps to have someone there especially if you are tempted to just give in. Good luck!

I've never had this problem but a friend of mine, about the time her daughter was 2 1/2, took scissors and cut holes in the paci then told her the rats chewed it up, she never wanted it again, another friend is going through the same thing right now and she told her daughter
(also 2 1/2), that on Easter all the good little boys and girls are giving their paci's to the Easter Bunny

tell her that she is to big and that there are babies that need the pacifier and put it in a box like you are going to mail it to someone. if you have a pregnant family member tell you child that you are going to mail it to that family member for the new baby. if that dont work just take the pacifier away and toss them in the trash. Good luck

put holes in it and then it doesn't have the same affect, tell them it is broken and you can't fix it. I have heard that parents tell their kids that babies in heaven need their binkies as a way to have them break the habit also. They tie the pacifier to a balloon and have the kids let it go so it will go to heaven for the babies there.

Have her throw ALL pacifiers in the trash and then give her a stuffed animal to sleep with.

This is from personal experience being a thumb sucker and blanket lover.
My mom tried everything to keep me from sucking my thumb, socks over my hands taped at night, chilli powder, that finger nail polish that tastes bad, everything.
With the blanket she hid it everywhere. She didnt want to get rid of it because she made it for my sister and then fitted it for my crib, it will be my babys when i have one. I always found where she had it hidden. One time she gave it to a friend to keep and one day when we were over there, i found it. Haha
She eventually let me have them both and figured i would stop when i was ready. And poof, one day i just stopped both. There is a reason your baby needs security, let them have it until they are ready.

My son (almost 4) didnt seem to want to get rid of it either. I just took it away. Gave him a little extra comfort at night and after a week (tops) it was over.
