Here is what they know of the buddha's birthday celebrations (like christmas)

Siddhārtha Gautama (Sanskrit सिद्धार्थ गौतम, Pali Gotama Buddha) was a spiritual teacher from ancient India and the historical founder of Buddhism. He is universally recognized by Buddhists as the Supreme Buddha of our age. The time of his birth and death are uncertain; most modern historians date his lifetime from 563 BC to 483 BC, though some have suggested a date about a century later than this.[1]

Gautama, also known as Sakyamuni or Shakyamuni (“sage of the Shakyas”), is the key figure in Buddhism, and accounts of his life, discourses, and monastic rules were summarized after his death and memorized by the saṅgha. Passed down by oral tradition, the Tripiṭaka, the collection of discourses attributed to Gautama, was committed to writing about 400 years later.

the birthday of the Gautama Buddha traditionally celebrated in East Asia on the eighth day of the fourth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, is a holiday in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and South Korea. The date varies from year to year in the Western (Gregorian) calendar:

* 2003: May 8
* 2004: May 26
* 2005: May 15 (This is a Sunday, hence May 16 becomes a holiday in Hong Kong and Macau.)
* 2006: May 5
* 2007: May 24
* 2008: May 12
* 2009: May 2
* 2010: May 21
* 2011: May 10
* 2012: April 28

In Japan, Buddha's Birthday is celebrated on April 8, but is not a national holiday. It is also known as 'Flower Festival' (Japanese: Hana-matsuri or Kanbutsu-e). Children traditionally drink ama-cha, a beverage prepared from a variety of hydrangea.

Its impossible to know the exact birthdate of people from that long ago.

Also, Gautama Buddha lived in Northern India before our calendar was invented and they didnt use the Gregorian calendar like we do.

Christians celebrate Jesus' birthday on the 25th of December, but actually, most Biblical authorities think he was probably born in Spring, not winter, and that Christmas was placed there to replace the pagan holiday of the Winter Solstice.

Point is, its been so long, its impossible to know things like that. We dont even know the year of his birth, much less the day (and some people think we even might have the wrong century!)

The Buddha became silent on each and every occasion all human beings asked him related to the beginning place of the universe or of existence. And the honestly Buddhist cosmological theories that have been progressed later by using Buddhist priests have been inconsistent with the astronomical documents of their very own circumstances. EDIT: To reiterate, the Buddha by no ability stated something himself related to the beginning place of the universe or of existence. It wasn't considerable to him. The later cosmological theories have been progressed by using his disciples after his dying, and that they are by using no ability are medical. they are meant as metaphors for what Buddhas and arhats see. EDIT 2: Oh, no, there curiously is a sutra, the Aganna Sutta, that describes something like the super Bang. This could have been weird and wonderful, by way of fact the Buddha oftentimes purely stored his mouth close while all human beings asked.

As the Gregorian calendar, with the month of April, did not exist yet at the time of Buddha's birth, it would not have been considered "April 7th" when he was born. The actual day and year of his birth is unknown. Different Buddha's traditions celebrate it at different times. And usually based on the Chinese, not the Gregorian calendar.

In Japan, Buddha's birthday is celebrated on 8 April. Other places celebrate it according to the Chinese calendar, so it moves relative to the Western calendar.

I bloody well hope not - my ex was born on 7th April and he was rotund before his heart attack, but God help all of us if he thought he was Buddha as well as God Almighty.

Smarty... cute answer. LOL

Like many have already said in here... the calendar as you know it didn't exist in Siddhartha's time, so his birthdate is fudgy and ultimately unimportant, given that his teachings are far more so.
