Whats your opinion on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Necessary conflicts to protect America's Interests. Half the people don't know whats been and what is going on behind the scenes that make this conflict neccessary. The rest are clueless inconsiderate left wing hacks, and they do nothing but endanger the military personnel and place the country in danger.
What do you think about the current military today?
Awesome. There is so much new technology out there, and the people are so much better trained and equipped, provided the Dems don't cut off funding.
What do you think about the media?
Most are left wing hacks with an anti-America agenda. Its sickening how corrupt the media has become since being taken over for the most part by the liberal left.
What news do you listen or read?
Wall Street Journal, Fox News, they are the only reliable sources left.
What do you think of Pres Bush?
Wonderful and brave man who had one of the biggest tradgedy's in American history dropped in his lap. The man loves this country and is sickened by the left wing political correctness partisan cancer thats taken over the country. He did the right thing in fighting back, no matter the cost. The best saying that fits there is no pain, no gain. To sit back and attempt to continue to appease the murderers who threaten us and attack us would have been a grave mistake.
What do you think about me joining the Coast Guard?
Ewwweee, go Marines!! Whooooah!

My opinion on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan....if the military would be alowed to fully complete the mission, with out the political guys trying to tie their hands on what they can and can not do, we can win and it will be a good thing for the peoples of those nations. If we keep being restrained from doing our jobs properly, we will never win and should just come home now.
My opinion on the current military today...things sure do change and not alays for the better. With the current need for more people to enlist in the military, I am seeing more less qualified people sign up and training in some of the more demanding feilds (electronics and such) becoming more and more dumbed down.
My opinion on the media...for the most part, they seem to tend to only report the negative. Yes there are some serious problems in 3 sections of Iraq but fo the most part the rest of the nation is in a good position. Yes, there are still problems but then again there are hudge problems in our own country.
As for what news I read or listen to, I try to look at it all. Every news agency has their own agenda and if you read across the board, you can usualy find the truth buried somewhere under it all.
As for President Bush, no I do not think he has been the best thing since sliced bread but I don't think he has been the worst President. He has made mistakes. He did not fully see the fight we faced in Iraq. He is slow to respond to the public demand. He worries a little too much about the politics of it all and not so much about the actuall issue. He is a politician. Thats what they do. Would be have been better off with someone else as president? Maybe yes, maybe no. Who knows. The fact is he IS the President and even if I do not believe in all that he is doing for this country, as a US sailor, I have no choice but to follow the orders given and to do my best to serve my country, protect the freedoms of my people and to honor the tradition on those who served before me.
I think you joining the Coast Guard is a good thing if that is what you want to do. It is a hudge thing to decide to join our military and to be willing to give up some freedoms and possibly your life to protect this naton. Good for you. I may joke and call the the puddle pirates but they are important to the security of this country.

I know iraq was a four starred screw up and afghanistan is grossly neglected because of Iraq. Of the two areas I think that only afghanistan warranted our attention. The military today is the best at handling conventional warfare but is getting too high tech and expensive leaving too few troops in service same can be said of equipment the planes cost too much and as a result we have too few in service. The soldiers and sailors are top notch in most cases. The war however has lead to massive neglect in the support and reequiping of forces. The media is doing a good job of covering the war and the neglect of the various agencies involved. I know those who want to smoke screen the truth of the short comings of this war will whine the media isn't telling all unfortunately the bad grossly out weighs the good so the good stuff is rarely reported such as building a school one week and then coming back a week later to find it leveled by terrorist. This is why security issues out wiegh the feel good stories. I listen to all three CNN-FOX NEWS - MSCNBC The three together eventually allow me to filter out the BS! I have never seen a man treasure stupidity as if it was a virtue as this twit. He should be impeached immediately as an example to future presidents to never be this short sighted and arrogant again. I think the bcoasties are a very honorable institution that do excellent work protecting our nations coastal water ways good choice son.

Whats your opinion on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan?
I think we need a change of direction. I am hoping that GEN Patreus (in Iraq) provides this...if not, we need to keep looking. As we've been there for 4 years with no end in sight, we need to re-evaluate our mission to see where we can do the most good. We're not going to kill all the terrorists, we're not going to make the Sunnis/Shias/Kurds all hold hands and sing "Kum Bah Ya", and we're not going to win the hearts and minds of Iraqis as a whole, so let's figure out what we can do, do it, and leave.
What do you think about the current military today?
I think it is a well trained and highly professional fighting force made up of dedicated men and women who sacrifice a lot for God and country. I am proud to be part of it and to fulfil a minor role in a huge machine.
What do you think about the media?
I think that the media does its job...people say that it is biased against the military and against the conservatives, but I disagree. I think that it reports the news, and unfortunately, the news is usually stuff that doesn't flatter the situation in Iraq very well. If all you heard were the good things, it would no longer be news, rather propaganda.
What news do you listen or read?
CNN, AP, USA Today, Seattle Times, New York Times, Fox News. I also listen to moderate to left wing talk shows such as Ed Schultz and Bill Press.
What do you think of Pres Bush?
As an officer in the United States Army Reserve, I prefer not to answer this particular question. As a generality, however, I would say that I believe that it is the responsibility of the military's civilian leadership to listen to and follow the recommendations put forth by military commanders in the field.

I've been to Afghanistan and Iraq twice. I think these wars are justified. We had to retaliate against Afghanistan. I do think we should have spent more focus there. I think Iraq is a good idea, too. Saddam was going to do something one day. It wasn't a question of "if" but "when."
I'm in the Army and I love it. I am an infantry guy, so it's always been fun for me.
I don't listen to the media, I know what's going on over there, and let me tell you, people are not just dying, which is what the media would have you believe.
I like George W. He has handled the situation as well as it can be. I will say though, that I think his dad should have done this 15 years ago. We shouldn't have stopped in Kuwait. This taking over of Iraq is long over due in my opinion.
The Coast Guard? E-mail me, I'm an Army recruiter, now.

Although im in the army I havn't been deployed yet, but I just wanted to chime in and say im proud of the posters so far, this is the first question ive seen where no one came on and gave some answer that just slanders the reps or dems. I wish all the question on Y!A could be like that.
Bush isnt the greatest president but he is by no measure a bad one, he has a tough job to do and has been caught ina tight situation and was given little support. The media is biased, it always has been, just more today than ever.
Coast Guard is just as good as any other service, go for it!
Iraq didnt go quite as planned but there has been accomplishment and there is hope in sight, I say we give it at least another year before we start deciding their fate or our withdraw.

The war in Iraq is justifed and we have done exceptionally well there, no matter what the media reports. I have a son that spent two years there kickin in doors and whathe tells me and what is reported is like night and day, especially after his second year there. There is night and day differences from the frist time over to the end of the second time over. New schools, new libraires, new hospitals, more and better infrastructure, more and new private Iraqi enterprises, new Army and police force, even a night life in Mosul until midnight. Afghanistan is righteous too, but we need to stem the growth of the poppy prouction for heorin. Our current military is Awesome, great bunch of guys and women too. They have sacrificed a lot to do what they do and so have their families. I wish they were paid more (they make welfare wages). The media SUCKS, always has always will. New schools and hospitals are not news to them, only death and destruction and how many troops we have lost. My son could never figure out why none of the good stuff is reported. He says that AMerica has a convaluted view of what has been accomplished over there. I try not to listen to to news, they are to depressing on every day life stuff. I listen to the local nes radion statin for news. President Bush has done a good job on the war, even though it is unpopular with the liberals, of course they will jump on any band wagon that makes him look bad. I like him but don't agree with him on a lot ofthins, such as our borders! I think you joiningthe coast guard is a great idea if that is what you want to do. Good luck on it.

1. I agree with the reasons for both wars and think they should continue
2. It definitely has it's problems but I am thinking about staying for 20
3. They are very anti war and anti military
4. CNN, Fox, Local, and News Radio (more for entertainment)
5. I voted for him twice, I do not agree with all of his decisions (mainly on government spending) but the other choice is worse
6. I think the Coast Guard is not a bad call. They have a real world mission every day. Nothing builds morale more than working hard and knowing that you are making a difference.
(FYI the Coast Guard does have people in the mid east)

1. Was needed..fight them there instead of here
2. A +, but in my opinion has become a "Kinder, Gentler Army" with all the stupid classes we have to go to on feeling and stuff..
3. Should be left to fend for themselves in the combat zone...lean way too much to the left...do not show the good things going on there...
4. Local Newspapers, some Fox, some CNN...I read a lot of history and poli sci books...
5. Has done the best he could under the circumstances...1 Million times better than what Gore or Kerry would have done...
6. Coast Guard is cool...do a lot of anti-drug stuff...

You have lots of opinions here. Most of them valid but as a retired Marine I try not to think of the political stupidities that kill our people and concentrate on what can be done to help one guy stay alive to come home. If our countries leaders had the balls to tell the military what they want done ..AND LET THEM DO IT... most of our casualties would not happen.
Any branch of service is honorable if you make it so. If you love water and prefer to stay near home as much as possible the coast guard is great. They are also more relaxed and informal than any other branch except the doggies. {Got a little Semper Fi dig there guys)
