Spmeone told me about a pet insurance or puppy plan type thing, where you pay monthly and it covers illness and even shots for puppys. Anyone have any advice? Where could I get info? and is it truly worth it?

I am also in the market for pet insurance. I contacted our vet to see what plans actually paid. I asked for some refferals from them. Be sure your vet will accept the insurance you are purchasing. Good luck in your search.

I looked into it, and it turns out that it is cheaper just to go to the vet when needed -- based on our animal's needs.
My family has 4 cats and a dog.

ABSOLUTELY!!! Our black lab is only 4 and he has already racked up over 5 grand in vet bills. If only we had pet insurance.....
