You are getting ripped off. $100 per wheel, give or take. Parts costs:

Front rotors 2x$25=$50
Front pads $38
Front calipers 2x$50=$100
Rear pads $39

So you have about $250 in parts, if we throw in a few bucks for hardware and brake fluid. (I'm being kind here, and assuming he's correct about needing new calipers)

If he spends 1 hour a wheel (which is a lot) and charges $95 an hour (which is a lot), add another $400 for labor for all four wheels. Total for all four wheels, figure $650. Fronts alone, about $400.

You can order all the parts here: http://www.rockauto.com Put them in his hand, and say, fix. Or better still, find someone else to do this job.

Considering the work involved this isn't bad. It's better if you maintain the brakes as this is considerably less expensive. This means relining them before they start to cut into the rotors or drums.

Ask Sears Auto Center for an estimate. They use the cheapest rotors, but they install them for free. It's much cheaper at Sears, but they overfilled my master cylinder and over-torqued my wheels. (Easy for me to fix.) Shop around. Brakes are relatively easy to do (I let Sears do it because it was cold last month).

bypass get a 2nd opinion first. sounds slightly extreme yet i don't understand the certainly condition of your motor vehicle so this is going to possibly not be out of line, yet i might bypass get a 2nd opinion.
