I want them to have friends and be happy. Would I want them to be big man on campus, probably not. To be a jock or a nerd? Most jocks are not the people you thought they would be in 20 years and the nerds all work for Microsoft and make lots of money. As long as they have some friends, and feel safe at school, that's what I care about.

If she would be popular because of her kind and caring spirit - yes!
If she would be popular based on the stuff she haves or the way she looks, but mean - no!
I actually want her to keep individualism instead of walking with the crowd, and I want her to have her own head. I reached my goal, LOL - she's stubborn and could care less, if she's considered uncool for loving ballet and classical music - she does it, because she likes it.
She haves a lot of friends, though.
What turns me off are elementary-school-parents, who already teach their kids to make the "right" social connections, like: "You should really invite Peter to your B-day-party next week, he's a popular kid and you'll be popular, too through being his friend."
When I overheard this little conversation between a mother and her son at school the other day, it just made me rolling my eyes - that little boy was 5 y/o to cry it out loud! 5 y/o shouldn't bother about things like this at all!

The reality is that most kids are insecure, whether they are jocks or nerds. Adolescence is a tough time - it's when they start figuring out who they are, and that isn't easy for any of us.
I just want my son to be happy. If he's content with 2-3 close friends (as I was), I am not going to push him to be more social. If he wants to be social, that's okay, too.
I am far more concerned with his character than his popularity.

I have not forgotten what high school was like.... The popular kids were so mean, even to their so-called friends . I dont want my kids to be mean. I want for them to have friends, and for those friends to be good ones. So nerd or jock , does not really matter to me.

It doesn't matter to me, why the heck would I care, the only thing I care is that they can emotionally handle their situation, and I would help them deal with whatever it is. I wouldn't want them bullied or made fun of by heartless other kids, but then that can happen no matter if you are popular or not. I want my kids to have good friendships, be good, ethical, and caring citizens, have activities that they enjoy, and be able to have a feeling of self worth separate from popularity or not.

I have thought about this since my first child was born Both groups have pros and cons to be popular i feel like you are more likely to live a more fast paced life and could get in more trouble.to be unpopular you might study harder and make better grades but you will mostly get picked on and we have seen that they can lead to murder and suicide.so i just hope they are happy make it though and not hate every moment of high school.

I would like for my kids to be liked in school(and so far so good) but I do not want them to become so popular that they think what their friends think are more important than their education.

I would want them to learn well and achieve something that they could carry on when they leave. Being a jock wouldn't achieve this.
*sigh* It's difficult. I'd want them to be happy, but in today's times, being intelligent is not considered 'cool' and that is so very very wrong. Not to mention narrow-minded.

I've taught my teenaged daughter not to care about such things, and when my triplets go to school, I will do the same.
