A 3 year old, no way! That's a bit overboard there.

What makes it a NO NO at 3 years old? OH, that would be the American obsession of breasts as sexual objects only? Actually, I am not a proponent of long term breastfeeding simply because it doesn't feel right TO ME, but I say leave well enough alone, you gonna turn into the Anti-Breat Feeding 3 Year Old Police and make sure no one does it?

Personally it doesn't bother me, I haven't ever fed a child for that long and am unlikely to do so in the future, but I do know people that have fed for 3+years and they have found it to be an amazing experience.
I think the problem is that breastfeeding in general is still a bit of a taboo, newspapers are forever telling us stories of women who have been ejected from establishments because they were feeding their child. Attitudes towards breastfeeding don't seem to have changed with the times the way attitudes have changed regarding single parent families, homosexuals, divorce etc etc.
It is a shame as it is the most natural thing in the world, and one of the best things a woman can do for their child. Just as well we all live in a 1st world country where we have the option not to breastfeed, women in 3rd world countries feed their children for an average of 7 years!!

Well, it's a personal preference. Obviously breastfeeding at this age would need to be supplemented with solid food. There are many cultures around the world that breastfeed up to 3 years of age, some even go longer. Americans are weirded out by it mainly because they can't seem to divorce breasts from sex. Unless your child is breastfeeding and ignoring all other forms of nutrition, there's nothing wrong with continuing to breastfeed if you choose to do so.

Personally I think that three years olds should not be breasfeeding, but there are soooooo many other things to worry about.
Like why do people give their toodlers soda? Why do people teach their kids to litter? Why do people beat their kids?
Breastfeeding for too long is at the bottom of my worry list.....

It makes me feel uncomfortable, breastfeeding up to 6 months has health benifits, i dont think there is any at 3. I know this will make me unpopular, but i just dont get WHY you would want to breastfeed a 3 year old

I agree its a big NO NO.
A child of 3 should be eating table food and drinking milk ... not milk from his mother.
IF the mother feels it something she wants to do that I think she should pump and put the milk into a sippy cup for the child. Its just not normal to see a toddle of 3 latched onto their mothers breast.

It would not work for me, I did nurse all of the children until they were 18 months old. If the child is eating a well balanced diet, and is not being forced to then I would say it's OK. They do ay the longer the better. We are the only animal that drinks another animals milk.
