How long has this been a problem? Is it affecting the vision?
If it is short term and not affecting vision it does sound like simple conjunctivitis. If has only been present for a day or so, cleansing may settle it. If not chloramphenical eye drops are now cheaper to buy that on prescription. If they don't settle it see your GP.

Because you have a minor bacterial eye infection.
Just need to get some Chlorophenical eye drops at chemist counter - no need for Doctor visit! use for a couple of days and it will disappear.
Also make sure towels/flannels are washed reguarly and pillow case as the eyes can easily become infected again.

Just use Johnsons baby shampoo.. its has mild bacterial properities without stinging your eyes. use one part to four parts of water and put in your eyes.... thats what i used the other day. a pharmacist will tell you its ok to use. check
