Okay, I am living in the houston area and trying to find a children's motorcycle to buy my son that is turning 7 years old next week.

But, here is the problem. His stepdad doesn't think that he is ready for the motorcycle yet, and I do. I actually told him like 2 months ago that I wanted to buy this for my son and he agreed. But, now he is changing his mind.
He is a very caring and loving father to my kids, but this something that my son really wants and I want to get it for him. We have been promising him this for the past year or so for Christmas and then his past birthday, but money was a little low then.
What should I do?

Oh, can anyone tell me where I can find them in the houston area, other than Wal-Mart and Toys r' us?

Thanks for the responses. But, just to add....
I am NOT talking a real motorcycle.
I am talking a battery powered ride-on toy, much like the 4-wheeled one, but he wants one that looks like a motorcycle.
Something that does not go over 10mph.

My girls (ages 6 & 7) each have a dirt bike (50cc) and they love it. As long as he uses safety precautions and is watched by a responsible adult, he should be fine. :)

Since you clarified, won't he be growing out of the battery operated vehicles too soon? That's a big expense if he won't ride it but a year or so.

I think that the motorcycle is extreme for the age 7. How about trying a 4 wheeler 1st and then move up to the motorcycle later. My son has been riding 4 wheelers since he was 3 yrs old and I find that they less dangerous than the motorcycle. 4 wheelers are easier to control and will not fall over when your feet do not hit the ground fast enough. Good luck on your decision.

This may not be what you want to hear but I would rather kill one of my kids myself than let or give them a motorcycle. Back "in-the-day" I raced motocross....and ended up in a body cast for over a year...not because of what I did but because of what an inexperienced rider did. I have a few metal parts (that I suspect are rusting now) where most people have bones. Bikes are not toys. Just because a child wants something does not mean it is good for them or that you should run out and get it for them. I can understand the desire...bikes are fun...a lot of fun but there are a lot of other things out there that would be just as much fun that don't offer up limbs and skulls as sacrifices.

I agree with your husband. I think to give kids an object that is motor operated is not a very wise thing to do since kids at that age has yet to fully understand the concept of safetiness much less trying to calculate the risks and consequences of certain action. Let's face it, no matter how good of a parents you are, you can never keep watch of your kid 24/7. What if he lost control of the bike and hit a car? No, I think it's best at this time to exercise caution for your kid's sake. Wait until he is a bit older.

That is tough. I would give it some more time.

I want a motorcycle myself, as does my husband. I grew up hearing my mom tell horror stories so I can't make myself give in, just yet (she's a RN in surgical ICU). There's no way I would let my son at that age, but that's just me.

My first response was "this woman must be nuts, no way" then when i think about it for a second a few questions came to mind. How big is he? Does he have good balance. Do you have protective wear for him while he rides. I dont think this is just a yes or no question. Good luck!

No way and if the step-dad says no then he must not ride either so then who will teach you son how to ride and all safety measures. Another 3 years I say.

any shop that sells bikes/quads or snow mobiles (not much sleds in TX though) should sell mini bikes

I personally think your husband is right. Just because he wants it doesnt mean he needs it.
I said NO WAY
