Earlier today I asked:

What would it take for you not to believe in god?

If you say that nothing would shake your faith, please describe how your faith is different from a cult. Do you have blind faith?

If so also give reasons why you think blind faith is good.

If not please tell why your unshakable faith is not blind faith.

Now most of the respones I got were similar to this:

"Faith is not blind. First you have faith, then you will see proof of it in answered prayers and insight."

My question now is: How do you know which god to put your faith into?

Isn't just assigning these "answered prayers" to any one god a leap of blind faith?

How does one determine which god has better "insight"? There are several religions that I think have "good" messages, how do I choose?

A question posed to me:
"What would it take to convince you there is a god?"

It would take the appearance of god. Which shouldn't be a big deal for the christain god because he made a special appearance for Thomas.

A statement made about me:
"You also seem to get a HUGE kick out of bashing faithful people."

I find this unfair and that you are "bashing" me.

Where in my question did I bash people?

Nothing would shake my faith because it is based upon experience. God appeared to me...ie made Himself known.

I never liked blind faith and refused to take blind faith alone.

As for which God...I found there was only 1 - so the question of which God does not apply. God wears masks for us...the Christians see Him as God or Jesus...Islam knows Him as Allah...Hindus know Him as Shiva, Vishnu, and/or Brahma (and others). It is all the same God.

There are several religions that you thought have "good messages" - well take what is good and leave the rest. My religion is Love and Truth.

You misunderstand the very nature of the word "faith."

You also seem to get a HUGE kick out of bashing faithful people.

By refusing to consider the possiblity of a god, aren't you subscribing to a kind of faith? What would it take to convince you there is a god?

I have faith because something of my heart feels there is more than what we see. I believe that there's more to life than anyone - theologian or scientist - will ever know or understand. I believe that there are questions that cannot be answered. I choose to believe in God with total faith because I cannot accept that mankind just happened. I respect your faith, but you refuse to respect mine. I have faith that somewhere, deep down, you have your own ponderous questions. But that might be blind faith - you may be as shallow as your Answers Posts.

I believe in the phrase "God = purpose".

I DON'T believe in organized religion or blind faith.

My beliefs are flexible and change with each new truth I learn.

I describe myself as a Deep Ecosocial Egalitarianist. Maybe someday that will become a religion, but it hasn't yet. Thank God! ;-)

"Faith is not blind. First you have faith, then you will see proof of it in answered prayers and insight."

It is answers like this that make believers seem so unintelligent.
Faith comes from evidence not vice versa.

I am not going to start having faith in the flying spaghetti monster and then create evidence to support that. That's retarded!

i think you ask very good and valid questions. i also think you'll get many bible verse quotes and gibberish that don't actually answer the question. i'm pagan and most of us continue to educate ourselves about our path and other religions. we choose our belief system based on ourselves, not based on what a book tells us to do. in the pagan group that i belong to, we are made up of many paths so we learn about lots of people's beliefs. so i guess i have many gods looking out for me!

For me not to believe in God He would have to come done in flesh and tell me He is not real, I know God is real because I can see His creation, I know He is real because it doesn't make sense that we came here by accident, He is real, He lives, He gave us a law, we broke it, we are all sentenced to die, but He came done in flesh and died in our place, He then rose from the grave and now we can also be saved from death (not the first death, because we are all appointed to die once, but the second death is the one we can escape.)

Nothing will cause me to lost faith. Even if pope himself come out and announce whole god and bible teaching is a hoax and made up, I wouldn't believe him.

Why do the nations say, "Where is their God?" Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him.
