Joshua chased down a retreating army in order to slaughter them to the last man, while God chucked hailstones down at them....and kept the sun out so that Joshua could stab fleeing people in the back while it was still light out.

God is a mean kid with a magnifying glass perched over an ant hill, and we're the ant hill.

That answer your question?

From a physics standpoint, it would be impossible as written, but we have to keep in mind how people thought in those days. It has been noted, that the Tunguska comet in Siberia exploded before it hit the ground, an "aerial burst" as it is called. History records that there was daylight at noon in many parts of the world at that time that lasted for weeks, due to the massive release of ice particles in the atmosphere. This might be the basis for the "sun not setting" at that time, God could have directed such an event. Obviously, stopping the rotation of the earth would mean total extinction of all life on earth, and would impact the entire solar system. As for the apparent bloodthirsty God of the old testament, I have wondered much at this myself. If :God is Love:, it seems it didn't apply until after Jesus Christ had a chance to mellow out old Jehovah a bit. Just an observation.

Im no expert, and maybe im wrong, but I would say if God allowed Joshuas enemies to be slaughtered it was because this was for the ultimate good of mankind as a whole, for example maybe one of Joshuas enemies would have fathered a child, whose future children, hundreds of generations down the line, would have been the leader of a nation that nuked the world and killed every living being, or maybe one of Joshuas enemies would have had ancestors in the future who would have killed the pope, theres millions of possibilities why God could have allowed this, God is not the author of evil but given the fact that humans are evil its his job to make the best of things and arrange things to have the most possible good.

Morning Baalam i've got on no account examine Harry Potter. because evil is a made of the society and the guy i think of you're able to no longer be making value judgements like that. at that element once you have been punishing human beings for being godless you killed all of them. Its no longer your place to decide a subculture or society so distant in time which you haven't any longer any concept of there social morals. Edit: merely had a cup of coffee and found out what you have been rather asking. could i urge my infants to verify historic previous or fiction. merely because you do not have faith the bible is historic previous does not make it so. I nonetheless bear in recommendations the historic previous I took in highschool and characteristic examine the historic previous in my young ones college books and that i see that historic previous has replaced and myth has replaced reality. So given the alternative i assume i might vote for historic previous and in the journey that your rather the loose philosopher all of us could be knowledgeable guy or woman you declare to be so might you.

If you look at the acheological history of the nations that God use Joshua and his troops to kill you will find that they were absolute despots who carried out child sacrifice by the hundreds. I read somewhere (though I honestly can't remember WHERE right now) that those finding the burial jars containing the bones of those sacrificed chlidren said that the wonder was why God didn't destroy those nations sooner. That's not the Bible or organized religion saying that, but secular authorities.

It is all about choices, you get to make the choice to accept God or reject Him. But when you reject him don't expect Him to be all loving. It does not work that way. What you gave it a great example of that, both sides of the issue.

Are you a good person? What a question, most of us believe that we are good people because we can look around and find someone that is far worse than we are. We can always point to the things that we think make us a good person.

But how good are we really? Dare we take this test and look at ourselves and see if we really are good? Hmmm.

If you are willing try this and see just how good a person you are.

The Good Person Test.

How will you do? Pass or fail?

Have you ever told a lie?
Doesn't matter how big or small, just a lie.
What does that make you? Before answering think about this, if I told you a lie what would you call me? A liar?

Have you ever stolen anything? Cost doesn't matter, a piece of gum, failed to give back an ink pen that you borrowed, anything.
What does that make you?

Jesus said, "You know the saying of old, you shall not commit adultery but I say that if look at someone to lust after them you have committed adultery in your heart.
Have you ever lusted?

Jesus said that hate is equal to murder.
Have you ever hated anyone?

See one day we all are going to stand before a Holy God on Judgment Day and he is going to judge us based on His Holy Law, the Ten Commandments. These are just 4 of them and how did you do? Guilty? I have broken all of these and more, what about you? How well will you do on Judgment Day?

If we break just one point of God's Law we are guilty of breaking all the law and Gods Wrath abides upon us all. Based on God's Law we are all guilty and all are deserving of punishment. But there is an out for us.

Jesus paid the price for each one of us, took on himself God's Wrath so we wouldn't have to face it on our own. Jesus was beaten, battered, bleed and died so we wouldn't have to face God's Wrath. He rose again so that we would life in his presence. Our crimes, His payment.

The real question is where will you stand on Judgment Day. Pay yourself or have it paid for you. Think about it.

Sounds like He loved Israel doesn't? At that time He was being a help to the people He had chosen to carry His name in the world. They were being a type of the Church that would enter the world after the coming of Jesus. His love is always to His children. He loves them enough to send Jesus into the world to be killed by evil in order to save those whom He will... Jim

This retreating army was from a culture that practiced infanticide, and other universally abominable practices. That is why God called for their utter destruction, so that these practices would not continue unabated.

because the Cannanites had rejected God totally, and I do mean Totally, God was very patient with them for a long time, when God had promised the land to Abraham he had told him the the iniquity of the Cannanites was not yet complete, meaning, that the Cannanites had not yet done so much evil that they warranted their destruction.

Well that is a Jewish God. Jewish people believe in that stuff... they think they are more special and more holy than
the rest of us people. They aren't like Christians who
are trying to spread the word to help out other people.
I guess you have to have Jewish blood to believe in this God.
I don't know.
