me! (Hand raised)
I Hate it more than chewing with your mouth open.
I hate it more than wearing wet socks...
I hate it...well I could go on all day..and then you would hate it.

When you say that 20 times in one sentence, you haven't said anything.

I don't. It's a verbal tic, like 'um', 'ya know', or 'like'. It's also a way to make sure that the listener is still on the same page with the speaker, which is a pretty fundamental part of conversation. Some people may use it a lot, but it's very difficult to speak at a normal rate without using ANY verbal tics whatsoever.

I don't like it. Also, I disagree with several others here, in that I believe that most people who use the word frequently do not really care how we respond to the question. I have, for example, said no on occasion in response, and the other person just kept on going as if I had said yes.

I dont care. Its a vebal tic like any other. And verbal tics like that are necessary to make sure the person youre talkin to is followin you.

I occasionally say it, but I also try to vary my verbal tics so it doesnt get redundant. I think it might be annoying with someone like...say...Chamillionaire, the rapper, who says it every 5 seconds, but other than that, nope, doesnt bother me.

Anything gets annoying when its repeated constantly.

Sorry, I don't know what you're saying.

Yeah, I hate that phrase.

I hate it because of its sheer cunning (cf. the alternative "do you see what I mean?) It obliges you to say yes, even when you disagree entirely -- because to say no would make you appear the sort of idiot who couldn't follow the rambling speech of the person speaking. So you find yourself nodding away, while wanting all the while to shake your head!

I Don't say "you know what I'm saying?"...But I do often find myself saying "you know what I mean?"....
I agree with the person who made the comment on it being a tic...I say it to make sure the person I'm speaking to understands exactly what I mean....
