The City of New York is comprised of 5 boroughs...Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. Manhattan is usually considered to be the "city".

Bronx is not the ghetto, but like all big cities it has its ghetto parts and its nice parts. The south bronx isn't a place for the average tourist, except of course for yankee stadium, and then there's the Bronx Zoo and city island and all the areas in the N. Bronx that are very nice.

The bronx is in new york. It is a burough of ny ( a city within a city. And NO it is not a ghetto. The bronx has alot of beautiful fancy areas and it has its "lower income areas" just like almost all the cities around the US have.

Well, there are several things to consider: First of all, the Bronx Zoo is in NYC, and is only a subway ride from other attractions, so perhaps you could do a few different things. You could certainly go to the zoo for the day, and still go out to a really nice restaurant in Manhattan, just by hopping on the subway. Second of all, are you planning to do this soon? It's pretty cold out, and most of the zoo's attractions are outdoors, so you'll be outside a LOT. That's just fine for some people, but perhaps you'd prefer more indoor activities? It's something to think about, anyway. Lastly, what else would you want to do in NYC? There are many other activities, from great, museums to shopping. (In other words, both high brow and low brow and everything in between.) I would opt for going to a museum in the winter, myself, or to a play, but my kids (who are 8 and 13) might prefer the zoo. But perhaps NOT in this weather, even for them! (And they LOVE the Bronx Zoo!) So consider what you want. Do you want a great outdoor activity followed up by a subway ride to dinner? Do you want to go to the Metropolitan Museum and see art? (Or one of the other fine art museums we have here?) Do you want to go to the Museum of Natural History and explore space or evolution or other interesting science topics? Do you want to shop till you drop? Do you want to take in a serious, cerebral play or perhaps a light musical? (This might be too expensive, but with discounted tickets from the TKTS booth you MIGHT be able to get two tickets on your budget.) In other words, you have to think about what you like (and add in how you feel about the weather.) Hope you have a GREAT time! (This sounds like such a thoughtful present! Good for you!)

It is one of the 5 boroughs and I wouldn't necessary call it entirely "ghetto." Of course, parts of it are, but there are "ghetto" parts of every borough.
