I'm from Central Illinois, and I hear it both ways, which is correct? Is there an answer?

There's no "correct" answer per se; it's just a question of regional dialect. If you call it pop, call it pop. I call it Coke or Sprite because I want that specific drink.

I've heard that the people up north call it pop here in the down south we call it soda. Either way its correct.

Neither. I don't drink soda.
There's not really an "official" word for it. It all depends on where you live.
I've heard soda, pop, soda pop, soft drink, and carbonated beverage.

Everyone in Michigan I know calls it pop. Don't know if theres a correct answer.

It all depends on where you live. Texans prefer dr pepper, and we call everything coke! dr pepper, pepsi, coca cola, etc - it's all coke to us!
