Oranges, because the carpel is bigger, and has axile placentation. It serves as the reason on why it has many seeds. Because it is the placenta which holds the ovules and its stalk, which ripens into the seeds. An axile placentation is multilocular and the seeds are arranged around a centarl axis. The arrangement has nothing to do with it, but consider that if a carpel is multilocular, it is "multiplacentated" (no such term, hehe, but you know what I mean, right?)- with many placenta it would lead you to think that there are as many ovules it can hold too, which will become seeds. :-)

FYI, apples have only a few seeds because their carpel is so small. In fact, it is the stony center of the apple that we throw and we don't eat. What we eat is not the carpel, but a fleshy receptacle. It is a pseudocarp or false fruit.

Maybe your third grader should do the work, then? Like get an apple and an orange and COUNT.

Keep this up and in a few years you're gonna wonder why your kid isn't too bright.

But really, after all is said and done, is this even possible to determine? It's like comparing apples and oranges, after all.

I would say an orange. Each section can have 3 or more seeds in it where as an apple usually has all the seeds in the middle and there aren't as many of them.

An orange of course, coz Apple is not a fruit at all.
It is a pseudofruit, or False fruit. What you eat of an apple is infact it's modified thalamus.
