Ringworm, also known as Tinea, is a contagious fungal infection of the skin. Contrary to its name, ringworm is not caused by a worm.
Ringworm is very common, especially among children, and may be spread by skin-to-skin contact, as well as via contact with contaminated items such as hairbrushes. Ringworm spreads readily, as those infected are contagious even before they show symptoms of the disease. Participants in contact sports such as wrestling have a risk of contracting the fungal infection through skin-to-skin contact.
Tinea capitis Ringworm is also a common infection in domestic animals, especially cattle and cats. Humans can contract ringworm from animals; cats, cattle and dogs are common sources owing to close association with humans.
Symptoms and diagnosis
The best known sign of ringworm in people is the appearance of one or more red raised itchy patches with defined edges, not unlike the herald rash of Pityriasis rosea. These patches are often lighter in the center, taking on the appearance of a ring. If the infected area involves the scalp or beard area, then bald patches may become evident. The affected area may become itchy for periods of time. If the nails are affected, they may thicken, discolor, and finally crumble and fall off.
Plucked hair treated with KOH showing ectothrix spores and hyphae from a case of feline ringwormDoctors can diagnose ringworm on sight, or they may take a skin scraping, or in the case of animal ringworm or tinea capitis, examine plucked hairs for fungal elements. This is examined under a microscope, or put on an agar plate in a microbiology laboratory and allowed to grow.

Treatment
Topical antifungal drugs containing miconazole and clotrimazole, available by prescription or over the counter, are used to clear up the infection. A folk remedy for ringworm is a 1:1 solution of cider vinegar and water. Another alternative is 2 drops Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca Oil) mixed with an ounce of water. In cats and cattle, sulfurated lime rinses are often used to treat ringworm. Enilconazole, as a rinse, is an effective ringworm treatment available in many countries for treating animals. Fungal infections may take a while to clear up.
Terbinafine is highly effective for Tinea corporis. It treats itching, burning, cracking, and scaling that accompany this condition. It cures most ringworm except the types affecting the nails or scalp, which are very difficult to treat.
Griseofulvin is a traditional drug used to treat ringworm in both animals and People. It can be very effective, but may produce side effects.
Undecylenic acid (Castor oil derivative) is an effective fungicide for fungal skin infections such as ringworm.
There are several homeopathic ointments from the SANUM-Kehlbeck Company that have been very beneficial in treating ringworm. These include: Albicansan (German) Pleo Alb (U.S./Canada) and Pefrakehl (German) Pleo Pef (U.S./Canada). Ref: Isopathic/Homeopathic Materia Medica.

Ringworm is a contagious fungus infection that can affect the scalp, the body, the feet (athlete's foot), or the nails.

People can get Ringworm from: 1) direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected person or pet, 2) indirect contact with an object or surface that an infected person or pet has touched, or 3) rarely, by contact with soil.
Ringworm can be treated with fungus-killing medicine.
To prevent Ringworm, 1) make sure all infected persons and pets get appropriate treatment, 2) avoid contact with infected persons and pets, 3) do not share personal items, and 4) keep common-use areas clean.

Ringworm isn't a parasite. Ringworm is caused by a fungus which is transmitted to the skin via unsanitary public bathrooms, toilet seats, etc. You should be able to find a decent over the counter treatment. Ringworm usually responds well to home care within 2-3 weeks without having to see a doctor. Keep your skin clean and dry. Apply over-the-counter antifungal or drying powders, lotions, or creams. Those that contain miconazole or clotrimazole are best. If it's in close proximity to your feet you need to wear water proof sandals in the shower or at the gym (if you sauna).

Ringworm is actually a fungus, not a worm. It makes the skin look like it has rings on it. The most common place to get it is from gym mats and stuff. I know wrestlers get it from rolling around on the mats. You can probably get it from infected shower stalls and many other places. A doctor can probably prescribe an antifungal treatment to clear it up.

I remember an old lady at work (colleague) wanted to take some cream from me. She put her hands in my pot of cream and infected some of my other cream with fungus on her fingers. Before not too long I developed RW. It was the most horrible experience I had ever had and you have to be very very careful about not infecting other parts of your body. You have to make sure you dont put your whole body in side the bath because it can affect other parts of your body. You have to use a pale to bath or use a shower. You must use a different cloth for the affected area and wash it with washing powder. I found that using anti fungals over the counter makes the fungus more potent. What ever you use, use a plaster to cover the area with the cream inside.
I would use Sulphur, Hollywood beauty, with camphor dry itchy scalp super strength. it contains, sorbitan, trioleate, menthol, triclosan and use plaster to cover it. ( It is a product you use for black hair and you get it in black shop) Do that every day. Also change your diet by having no bread or yeasts. Good luck

You can get it from being outside playing in dirt - like gardening, etc. Or pets can bring it in from outside. Or, you can get it from someone who has it. Try over the counter Lotrimin cream first. Apply it topcially to the affected area and wash your hands right away. If the area is exposed - like your forearm or something, you can cover it with a bandage. Apply it daily as package directs until the rash disappears and then two days after. If you see NO improvment or it gets worse within 5 days of starting this treatment, see a doctor for a prescription.
