vanilla flavouring is not real... its the stuff in small screw top bottles and should be avoided..
vanilla essence usually has alcohol added..
opt for vanilla extract... with seeds..(it also has alcohol but is far better)
vanilla beans are the best option...
or add vanilla pods to your caster sugar, thats what i do..

Vanilla essence is the real thing. Even better you should use the real Vanilla pods these give such a yummy flavour.

the two couldn't be more different. vanilla essence is actually double- or triple-strength vanilla extract. it has a high vanillin concentration and has an intense flavor. vanilla flavoring only simulates the aroma and flavor of vanilla. it doesn't contain real vanilla.

as far as i know flavour is synthetic and fake, but essence comes from actual vanilla.

Essence is usually natural, flavouring isnt.
Vanilla extract is the best - 100% pure and you need far less.

I've always thought of them as the same synthetic product, leaving pure vanilla extract the title of "real"

The way I explained it to my daughter the other day, it's like perfume. The essense is toilet water, much weaker and more of a flavouring, the extract is the real perfum :-)
