I'm entered in a competition called J8. Basically we (as in the youth of today!) have to present our ideas on climate change to the G8 summit. I'm looking for facts, figures, useful websites, any new ideas for solutions... anything you think might possibly be useful!! thank you! x

Hate to break it to you, but I've heard that even if we cut every single emission in the world today, there is enough CO2 to effect the whole world.

I think finding a new, cheap, less ugly way of creating renewable electricity would be fantastic as a way of not speeding climate change up.

Also, if you think of how many times people use the mouse on the computer : maybe you could suggest a way of using the ball at the bottom of the mouse to generate electriciy. OK I know that's a bad example, but I hope you get my drift. Basically, we need to find something people do all the time and find a way to convert it into renewable energy.

I think more renewable energy is the answer.

any ideas on how to solve climate change?

No... because there is nothing we humans can do about it. I know that's tough for many to believe or even consider since some of us believe we are the cause of climate change, but nothing could be further from the truth. Climate change is beyond our control and humans don't have the power to make such changes in any significant manner... even if we wanted too. Earth's eco-system functions on a much grander scale then we humans can comprehend at this time. Best thing we can do is learn to adapt to the changing environment and make every effort to understand our planet better before we begin to alter the lives of billions of people based on hunches, wild speculation and bad science.

Tax the poor !!!

First the percentage of human contribution to greenhouse gases needs to be determined. I have heard a value of only 5% of all greenhouse gases are caused by humans. But lets suppose its 20%.

Now we need to determine at what level the total (human and natural sources) yearly production of greenhouse gases needs to be to obtain an equilibrium status. This means how much can be absorbed by the oceans etc..Lets call this the equilibrium level LE.

Now we need to see if there were no humans whether that will provide equilibrium, so remove the human contribution from teh total and see if the remining level is equal to or less than LE. If its still > LE, then humans aren't the cause. However humans can create giant atmospheric scrubbing machines to bubble CO2 back into the oceans.

If the total nonhuman value is less than LE then humans need to create mechanism to remove 1unit of Greenhouse gas for every unit produced to main current levels. Then humans need to create machines to remove the current excess to bring the value below LE. One way to remove 1 unit of greenhouse gas per 1 unit produced is to require more greenspace for every acre destroyed in construction (terraces etc...)

Then there are conservation methods that would reduce the level produced thus making the matching removal requirement easier.

Hope this helps

worldwide issues are actually not in basic terms considerable issues, or issues that impact many human beings. extremely they're those issues that impact the full of the planet, and doubtlessly all the persons who stay to tell the story it. besides, except we profoundly replace our collective behaviour, climate replace might perhaps effect in irreversible adjustments interior the climate situations of existence – a level of the deep vulnerability of human society interior the face of this venture. And that's uncomplicated to be sure that there will be no undemanding answer to the subject: the motives of the present venture are patently regarding our financial gadget, our attitudes to nature, our political business enterprise, our technological capacities and possibilities, and our makes use of of supplies. ideas will contain not in basic terms all communities and each usa, yet ideas will inevitably contain cooperation between all, extremely than guy or woman techniques. In different words, the occasion of climate replace capacity that worldwide issues are complicated, intractable, and make human society as an entire very susceptible.

Ban the use of aircraft just to import out of season fruit and veg, stop George Bush invading the whole Middle East, get China and India to manufacture in a more responsible fashion. Stop cows f*rting, stop volcanoes erupting. The latest research shows that global warming would continue even if mankind stopped all it's current activities. It's all just an excuse to tax us even more money.

Since CO2 is heralded as the major source of global warming, the industrious nations of the world should make huge CO2 filters (much like the ones used on the space shuttle) and place them on the rooftop of every hirise. natural wind currents will send the air through them where they can remove some of the excess CO2 in the atmosphere

if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to reverse the destructive processes

reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.

the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.

the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia

Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.

the protection of existing forrests.

stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.

education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.

education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´populaion

Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.

more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks

,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour

alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine

recicling wastes,limit water use

End all foreign aid and welfare.
The population will decline, reducing pollution and improving the quality of life for the remainder.
Stop importing cheap manufactured goods and get back into the habit paying £50 for a locally made kettle that lasts ten years instead of £8.00 for a Chinese model that lasts a year.

Instead of taxing people for taking well earned holidays from this poop hole country the government should stop supermarkets using so much useless packaging on all of their products and also do something about the ridiculous amount of unwanted junk mail we all receive.
