Once the anesthesia has worn off, you may feel some temporary pain. This pain can usually be relieved with ordinary painkillers. It is important that you get mobile as early as possible as this will help prevent blood clots and respiratory problems. When you are able to get up and mobilize you will be assessed for discharge. The surgical team will be available to assess your progress and decide when you can be discharged from the clinic.
You will be given dietary guidelines, as well as a prescription for liquid painkillers at the time of discharge. You must go home with and be accompanied by a responsible adult for the first 24 hours after your surgery.
If you have surgery at the Plastic Surgery Clinic and it is felt you should not be discharged that day, arrangements will be made for transfer and admission to the nearby Trillium Health Centre. This is very rarely necessary.
It is common to experience “gas pain” in the shoulder and chest area for up to 36 hours after the surgery. There will be some discomfort around the abdominal incisions that should be easily controlled with the medications you will be given. It is important that post-op nausea be controlled.
With a routine recovery you should be able to resume normal activities within 7 to 10 days after the surgery. You can drive within a few days of the surgery, as long as it is not long distances. We encourage you to gradually start exercising when you feel up to it. Walking for at least 30 minutes per day is highly recommended. Strenuous exercise such as lifting weights and abdominal exercises should be avoided for at least one month.

Weight loss surgery-like lap band surgery have become very common and very safe now. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges Obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Fly2india4health Consultants. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. I have also read that they arrange financing for international patients, as all surgery is not covered by insurance or by the stinking NHS.
They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor I personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of Healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin got her Obesity surgery done there and she is more than very happy with the results. She is all praise for Fly2india4health Consultants. She paid just 20% of the cost what she was quoted in USA and it was like a wonderful vacation for her. Hope this helps

I got my lap-band in Nov. 2004. It took many months for my doctor to get me to a fill level where I had restriction. In 2006, I had complications, and all of the fluid was taken out of my band twice.
I'm finally back up to the fill level I had before my complications, but without the restriction, I regained all but 10 of the lbs I had lost.
It's a tool, not a miracle solution. You still have to make good food choices and watch portion sizes until your band is at a good restriction.

You really have to want to change your eating habits. The person I know had it done and didn't change her eating habits. She could have lost about 150lbs and only lost 70 lbs and then gained a lot of it back. At first she wouldn't be able to eat a lot, but once her stomach got used to it she would be back at the fridge late at night stuffing her face. Even before her stomach got used to it she would WAY over eat and throw it all up, and then eat again.
They place a tube around your stomach and then give you adjustments where they add saline into the tube to make your stomach smaller. It is much less invasive then gastric bypass. But if you can make the necessary change to eat healthier and not so much I recommend it.

I forgot to add that you can get adjustments every couple of months.
