They are all part of the same family. Swordfish have a thicker and longer bill and the fish as a whole are a lot more stout. The fish they catch in the movie Perfect Storm are swordfish, they are mostly a nocturnal and deeper dwelling fish. Compared to the other billfish, their meat is very tasty and very prized.
Marlin are the king of the billfish. There are different types of marlin: black, blue, white and striped. They are a popular sport fish through certain tropical areas. Marlin are rarely taken for table fare, they are unhooked and set free except for very large specimens that are kept for world-record type settings.
Sailfish are unique to the rest of the billfish family because of the distinctive dorsal fin(sail) that usually stretches the entire back. They are the fastest swimming fish in the ocean reaching speeds over 68 mph. They are well known for their acrobatic jumps while hooked. And rarely do they get above 200lbs.

Hope this helps!

The Cards have a bunch of good to great hitters this year and good defense and could win the division if the pitching comes back. It has been smoke, mirrors and the long ball so far. Right now the wild card is the better chance. The Marlins? Unless the Phils and Mets tear each other up the Marlins don't have a chance because the wild card will come out of the Central. Any of the top three there have wildcard playoff teams.

Isn't a marlin a swordfish? I think sailfish are different.

i think both teams have very outside shots...the cardinals' problem is that the cubs and brewers have both made big moves to add to their starting rotations, which could cause problems for the power bats in the cards' lineup...the marlins' only real chance is to get hot and hope the brewers, cardinals, and mets all cool off, which is very hard to imagine
