Yesterday at exactly this time (16:46) we got a call that as soon as you pick it up it clicks a few timnes and goes off, then the empty line buzz goes. The number on 1471 started 0845 which I think is a company phone.

Tonight the same happened, same time but withheld number,

Any idea how or what I should do if it happens again? or am I over reacting?

Did you write the number down yesterday? If you did, Google it and that might tell you who it was.

It sounds like market research or something.

You can register with the Telephone Preference Service (Google Search) and they will stop these calls.

We used to get a ridiculous amount of these calls and registering with them has really helped. The odd one still seems to get through, but much much better than it was!

Could be a scam or an auto dialer.
If you answer it don't press any buttons until the call has ended, just in case it is a scam.
Either way register free with the telephone preference service and in a few weeks the calls should stop altogether.

Put the full number in google, it often reveals the source of such numbers.

After experiencing several of these phone calls - some even left a recorded message on my machine to follow up with a phone call to a premium number (as if). Anyway I rang BT and added my name to the list to say non of these phone calls would be put through - it has worked. I think instead of doing all this PC thing - the Gvt should be attacking the shisters of the world because its them who are conning so many people.

I'll go along with CLARE N ....I use to get some strange phone calls then I registered with TPS and I have'nt any more got them. The real nasty one is if an international dialer gets placed on your desktop with a clock next to it. If you dont use that dialer the clock will be ticking away and buils up yor phone bill. The best thing to do is switch off your PC asap.

Auto dailer, I get them all the time, DONT press 3 after you have done 1471 as it could cost you a packet as it could be a scam.

ive heard dodgy stories about people calling the number back and then getting charged loads per minute, if its anyone you know or a company you deal with they will ring you back so do not call it yourself.
