even when I sit at my desk for long periods of time, i will stand up and start walking and my right foot feels like it is sprained, but when I walk on it more the pain subsides. What could it be?

IF there was a blood clot your lower leg would be red, hot, and extremely tender to touch. It would get worse with activity because the muscles in your lower leg and contracting and requiring an increase in circulation to provide oxygen and glucose to function. If circulation increase, the symptoms from the blood clot would worsen!

Plantar fasciitis is on the bottom of the foot. The first few steps of the day would be painful and then subsides.
It also hurts to stretch the bottom of your foot (pulling your toes up).

I have read some of the answers and it amazes me how most people immediately think of the worst possible diagnosis .... which can be quite frightening.

My 21 year old son has often complained of this problem as well. After thinking about how he has used his foot (skateboarding, long walks in shoes that are heavy and not properly tied, tension in one leg while sitting at his computer playing games, etc.) it turns out he has fallen arches (flat footed).

You may have strained a ligament or pulled a muscle in that foot some time ago and because of the inflammation it hurts occasionally. It could also have something to do with ill fitting shoes or you might have flat feet which puts stress on your ankle.

Don't let all the answers about "blood clots" freak you out. I would suggest that you see your doctor and if he doesn't have an immediate answer for you ... he may send you to see a podiatrist (foot doctor) for diagnosis.

I wish you luck and a speedy recovery with whatever is wrong .... hurry and get back on your feet! ; )

Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) refers to a blood clot embedded in one of the major deep veins of the lower legs, thighs, or pelvis. A clot blocks blood circulation through these veins, which carry blood from the lower body back to the heart. The blockage can cause pain, swelling, or warmth in the affected leg.

You should get this checked out because they say the clot can travel to the a lung and cut of oxygen to the brain, and heart. Which can be fatal.

Sounds like a blood clot or a bone spur, but a doctor would have to diagnose that. A great product for unknown pain is Protec at healthquest.peoplesway.com. Pro GCM Plus has ibuprofen for immediate pain relieve. Protec will cleanse and repair the body. You can check out videos at youtube.com if you search peoplesway.

Might be plantar fasciitis - there are exercises which can help. My ex-son-in-law went to a podiatrist, who showed him how to bandage his foot to provide extra support, gave him exercises to do, and even had a support made for his shoes. Exercise and anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.) would probably be the first recommendation.
