My mum has had a rash on her skin for a few weeks now. It started on her legs and has spread to the stomach, buttocks, chest and breasts. It is not on her arms or back which is why we are led to believe that it is not an allergy for something on the outside e.g. clothing, bedding etc.

The area is not red, although is after scratching, naturally. There are many small 1-2mm ish spots all over but there are no obvious patterns or surroundings to the spots, or pimples

She is reluctant to try cream because of the large surface area and anti-histamines have failed. We convinced her to go the doctor today and he has no idea so he has taken some blood. I am quite the worrier so would be grateful for some knowledgable reassurance. Is blood testing the routine route for allergy testing? Do any of you have any experience? Are any of you doctors or dematologists?

It is very itchy and is causing a great deal of discomfort. However tender, there is no pain (as such). Thanks again..

I think you should start with your GP first as He can refer you to a Dermatologist for further testing. The tests may involve common irritants such as dust but may also include foods, as it could be something she has eaten. If it's an allergy an antihistamine such as Zirtec or Benydryl or Piriton may help the rash.

You know, it sure does sound like my rash I had,I have found out I am very allergic to mold, they call white root in the south, like your Mother,I had on my body and it was very itchy,I have found to immediately after I do anything that has lots of old dust or working outside get out of my clothes and who ever has been with me to the same also, and wash them clothes so your Mother has no contact with, and I also discovered taking a baking soda bath help relieve to the itching, but what I mostly found to help me is a salve I found at Arkansas, the name of it is Old Hickory Zinc Ointment, this stuff really really helps me,when I notice the rash to start I immediately wash the spot of and put some of the ointment on,You can Probably write to the people at Old Hickory Medicine Co.inc. Andalusia,Alabama 36420,We moved to Arizona since then, but about to return to Louisiana again,so I know I'll be getting it again,I have gone to Doctors as your Mother has, they help for a bit,From my experience washing your clothes, that ointment is a live saver to me I can enjoy the outdoors again,I feel very very sorry for your Mother,I KNOW what she is going threw, wish you all the luck and I hope I have helped you some

I would suggest seeing a dermoltigist skin doc. Rashes are there specailty. I got scabbies as I have in another question stated. which causes and itch rash that spreads. the pimples and blisters dont show till later. Im not saying she has them or not. But it would be good to see the derm before handinstead of too late like me.

i would take her to a dermatologist, they deal with skin rashes and all kinds of things. you can't really guess on skin rashes because there are so many different types, you'd have to see it and even then just looking at doesn't always give answers. go to a dermatologist before it gets worse.
