It's probably the same reason why white guys prefer European or Asian girls over American ones: THE ATTITUDE!
You American girls have all been raised to thing your sh!t doesn't stink; that you're princesses, or goddesses, or whatever, and that you can say or do most anything to or about a man, and do it with IMPUNITY.
I've got a news flash for you - while men like a little sass in a woman, we really cannot deal with women who ***** and diss at every turn. Why? Because how do you expect us to react to it? Any counterresponse or escalation automatically invokes the "girls are weaker" counterresponse from you. It's a no-win situation for us (but it's an "always win" situation for you.
Now with women from other cultures, this isn't a problem. It's not that they are subservient, it's just that don't ABUSE the privileges that culture affords women.
I hope this makes sense to you - I'd hate to think I wasted 7 minutes of my time for nothing.

i'm neither white, nor a man, but i had to respond. as someone who has dated all races i have to say that maybe it's not that white men prefer african girls to african-american girls; maybe they just like the attitude and personalities of your african friends better than yours. (and that's not to imply that you're not a good catch.) but...i do think you should do some internal reflection. just because you have a lighter complexion than your african friends doesn't mean you're more attractive than them (beauty is in the eye of the beholder and stop comparing yourself to the white man's standard of beauty). who knows? opposites attract and these white men might be looking for pure, undiluted chocolate. maybe your caramel isn't quite their flavor.
i'd suggest hanging out at different spots without the african friends. that way you have the chance to meet a different type of white man and you won't be in competition with your girlfriends. and that 90% statistic is a lie. i know plenty of black american women (myself included) who have had no problems catching a white man. maybe you should just focus on getting a good man and not get caught up in their nationality. i'm not saying....but i'm just saying.

I think it is a little bit to do with a mystique about them. All women are great, but when from Africa, there is just something a bit more to them. Hard to describe, but something away from the common, something more to explore. I think in the same way a white guy will want to be with a black woman, being an African just adds more to the intrigue.

OK I can't speak for every white man but here goes. I have been married 4 times to black women and am right now to a beautiful woman. All my children are mixed and I have dated mostly black women since I was 17 and am now 44.
So I think it may be a couple of reasons for your question.
The men may prefer the exotic side of a foreign woman. They may be misled on the stereo types of exotic African women's sexuality.
Maybe they like dark skinned girls. I have dated a couple of light skinned ladies but I prefer dark skinned beauties. It's just my preference.
Maybe they think they can manipulate foreign girls better. My son whose mother is African American will not date a sister because he say's they are too strong...whatever that's his opinion.
Maybe the answer to the question isn't about what they see in the African girls but what they see in you. Have you asked yourself why you prefer white men?
I was always conscious of girls who looked at me as a ghetto buster or trick instead of liking me for me. Black women have told me that they date white men because of three things. Previous bad experiences, security and better treatment.
Now I don't believe all men of color are like that because some of them are my father and husband role models. I beive generalities like that are unfair as a whole and each one needs to be considered individualy.
I know for myself I was raised around black and latino folks and my mom,s very best friend was a woman of color that helped raise us and we loved very much so for myself the connection was natural.
I would examine the men you covet. What vibes you are putting out. Because when it is ment to be nothing will restrain the attraction/desire wether it be color or culture.
Just one persons story.
Peace and be blessed

Like you said - it's not a color thing, it's a culture thing. African American females tend to be very emotional and hard to deal with. Africans in general are more laid back and frankly grateful for positive attention.
