Every state has public housing. Call your HUD provider nearest you
http://www.hud.gov/offices/pih/pha/contacts/
they work off an income scale. 30% of your income is your rent and if you make 0 then it's 0 dollars for rent.
Also, go to your nearest Health and Human Services for assistance with food, medicaid and while going through your recovery, they can help provide a person to come care for the children, transporation for the kids to and from school while you are recovering. If you qualify with a doctors documentation they will help you with ADC which is a check they provide you with to pay some bills and purchase t.p., shampooo and such that food stamps (EBT) doesn't cover.

There are also great volunteer programs out there where people volunteer for the community and you can even list your volunteer needs where people can hook up with you through these companies so you can get help with cleaning the house or doing laundry.

Another option is to call this 211 number

Wow, I feel for you. I have been in that situation. I have been putting off spine surgery for about 2 years now because I cant afford to be off work for the coop time. Besides the fact that the bastards would probably try to replace me! I found an alternate plan and get spine injections until I can take the vacation time to help cover some of my time off. It is so hard being a single parent, people that aren't in our shoes sometimes dont understand. I can tell you a right answer for your question because ultimately that is your decision. But I think I would take the job, get the health insurance, THEN have the surgery that you need. Until then ask the doctor if there is a healthy, safe alternative. Good luck!!!!

Child support? Financial Aid? No job because of health reason can get you disability from social security. Welfare?
Get in touch with some community resources. You have a computer and the Internet. Start researching and start reaching out. Good luck. I know you can do it. You sound like a strong woman and I know you love your kids.

I feel for you. How soon do you need the surgery? Can you go without it - is it something like a hysterectomy? Can you get a second opinion? I don't know, I'd think it would be best to take care of the girls and take the job. I'm sorry you have to deal with this and good luck.

If you have health insurance it may actually cover loss of income. What is the surgery? I don't know your situation, so I'm not going to be arrogant enough to tell you what to do... Good luck however!

Seek public aid immediatley. Apply for section 8 while you can, and if the surgery can wait, wait. If it's life threating, do it. See if your friends could help with the kids for a while.

its a awake up call - time to get to know your neighbors, local community center - family services center...
and ask someone for help - maybe they can arrange for a baby sitters for the kids.
ask the hospital.
talk to your work. explain the situation.
sounds liek it might be time for a check up form the neck up - in other words an attitude adjustment might be in order.
godo luck
