It wouldn't matter to me who or what you called yourself...you will always be Sean to me and that's what matters.

Labels don't really matter. Self-proclaimed silly labels do matter, at least to me.
I would take the answerer Sean seriously, all his answers and questions. If some guy named Sean claims to be a Mayor of a website, he chooses to provide himself with a silly label. Which makes that I have to take every question he asks with a grain of salt.
If that same Sean now calls himself 'citizen Sean', it makes it even sillier. Specially because he uses the word 'citizen' to ask a question about labels, with that still claiming that mayor would be a valid label.
I'm sorry, but I truly find it silly.

I think the examples you gave our good ones. My only title is a child of God's.
But the rest really isn't important to me.
Pleople with titles seem to get thing from the world for some reason. Like a doctor, lawyer or judge.
I really don't think titles are important. To me my title of being God's daughter is important. But titles from the world are not. It just depends on how each person feels about having a title.
I know I wear many different hats in life but the most important title I have is being God's daughter.
I'm sorry if I didn't answer your question correctly I'm just being me. God bless you.

Wouldn't citizen also be a title?
Labels do make a difference. However, the amount of difference they make sometimes is exaggerated.
I personally stay away from any special title. I don't want to be regarded as anything more then just a "citizen" or human being on my journey of life.

...always preferred Grand Poohbah Gwyd, myself...however, the way we are perceived has a lot to do with image.
Sometimes a title can change that image. Sometimes that title can change how we feel ourselves and, thus, change the image we project inadvertently.
Image is everything, unfortunately...citizen might raise a few eyebrows as it suggests you want to be bland.
The boyfriend/girlfriend vs. husband/wife theory is a law issue...though that is wiped out with cohabitation, one might say.
As for atheist or theists...I don't know many who go around introducing themselves as Atheist Joe...so not sure we can use this one in the same way.

Hello Citizen … :)
They aren't, unless you have to use them to marry (Pastor, Justice of Peace) someone..than according to our law..the marriage will not be legal..unless your Title is stated on the legal document..
We all have blood running through our veins..we all have a heart (now maybe mechanical) a brain..etc..
Just because beliefs may differ, does not mean that we all do not hurt, cry, Love and bleed the same as everyone else..
In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ.. :)

I certainly don't answer your questions because you were designated a "mayor". If they were just Sean's questions, I would still reply.
Titles and labels aren't important - they are esteem issues. We're a society that lives by definition, and sadly one that lives by the definition that others give us.

I generally hate labels because they come with stigmas and assumptions. Other people think they know you based upon the label you wear and will judge you on that alone.
I realize humans feel the need to categorize everything. For example, it's not just rock 'n roll, it's pop rock, modern rock, metal, speed metal, etc. But when you pigeonhole something or someone into one category, you may miss something about that person that makes them unique.

People cling to titles and labels in such a way that anything that pleases them will cause them to be drawn towards it in a favorable manner and anything they have aversion toward will be shunned or maltreated. Imagine yourself being called "Comrade Sean" in the cold war era... the level of American aversion to anything someone else declared "evil" would have you treated like poo in no time flat.
