No. The Crucifixion HAD to be done. Only UNDERSTANDING why He was doing this would convince people He was "right". This was preordained by God, not some "last ditch effort." When Peter was first teaching on baptism, he saw Jesus approaching and called out to the people around him, "Behold the Lamb of God, come to take away THE SINS OF THE WORLD." Since Peter had come to understand Christ's mission through being taught directly, he was able to comprehend that the things pertaining to the new Covenant that were being taught (repentance, water baptism, sanctification and being filled with the Holy Ghost) were what it was going to take to attain salvation once the Law was fulfilled upon Christs' death. People still had free will to accept OR reject; we still have it today. If we didn't have free will, we couldn't love God as unconditrionally as He loves us, and Christs' sacrifice would've been a waste!

Well i think that Jesus was put to death by the romans. Yes, he knew he had to and was going to die but he didnt commit suicide!
One more thing...if he died in an attempt to get people to believe in him by thinking "they'll miss me when im gone" that wont really work as he rose from the dead and he could have told them himself!

Jesus was tried and convicted during an illegal trial and turned over to the Romans for execution. How was that his doing?

Last I read, there was no such thing as suicide by torture stake.
