Pilots for no-thrills airlines make very little money. They do it solely for the love of flying.

Most commercial airline pilots for international airlines (American, United, etc.) come out of the military. This is because it costs a lot of money to get training on large, multi-jet planes. You also need to put in a lot of flight hours before an airline will hire you.

Thus, let the military cover your training expenses. Meanwhile, you will be getting experience and earning a salary.

this is very good for you.....if you actually like those subjects....you do have to have a bacheoler's in something but it doesn't have to have anything to do with engineering or aeronautics though commercial airlines do prefer those types of degrees.....pilots are in demand so you are in luck especially since you are a woman. you start out at a small local airport...they usually are giving lessons....you will need to buy textbooks and some other misc. stuff. You have to aquire the legal amount of flight hours to move up to the next level which is Instrument. from small planes you work your way up to small jets and then the commercial jets. It takes much of your life to obtain the hours and experience needed for the career. but if you like it it can be a fun experience. it's a lot of money too.

A good place to start is at the University of North Dakota. They have one of the top aviation and space studies programs in the country. Navigate the website using aviation as your search word on the site. You will get a view of general requirements and all that it entails. good luck to you. Aviation will become a much demanded career soon, as all the baby boomers retire. Now is a great time to get into it because you have the time to build your flight hours in instruction and or puddle jumpers, and then be ready to make the big bucks!

You need to go to flight school as a civilian; flying is a hands on procedure. Try your local municipal airport. You will need to spend time flying plains with the aid of a competent instructor. It will cost you thousands of dollars to get the hours built up necessary to fly jets. you can also join the air force for free and learn there if you qualify. They have some great jets to fly for sure but you have to be very good.
