I'm getting copies of different poeple. I have a question about the PA death certificate. Can anyone explain this part. I already tried calling the vital records but can't get through.

No fee maybe required for death records of active or inactive members of the armed forces or their dependents?

I called and got through, I don't think the guy who answered to phone knew the answer. He couldn't give me a direct answer. He said that only my gg grandmother (would be like 130 yrs old), his dad (my ggg grandfather, 155 yrs old)his mom (my ggg grand mother 150 yrs old) and my g grand father could get it of free (115 yrs old)!!!! They been all dead for a while. That grand children have to pay. Also a active military member and the their dependents have too pay too.

Gotta love the government...vague as always. I would keep trying to call them. I know for my family, I can get death records for the child/wife of my military ancestors. If you find the government not being helpful, you might want to call a local genealogical society....they might be able to answer some of those questions! Good luck!

My reading of that says there is no fee for the record of death of a member (active or inactive) of the armed forces or for a child who was dependent on that persons benefits. You need the information of the person who is dead for the form.

If it was the military status of the person asking for the form it would say "No fee required for death records requested by members..."

A better question to ask if you want the fee reduced, although I don't know if PA does it, is to find out if uncertified death certificates are cheaper. (Although if you later want to join some heritage organization you would need certified copies to support your claim)

Inactive military doesn't mean "discharged vet". Inactive military is when a National Guardsman is back at home working his regular job. The line doesn't pertain to your situation with your dad. It also doesn't pertain to you if your dad was a vet from many years ago. It only comes in to play if your dad was active military or National Guard when he died or if one of the people you're asking about was the spouse or child of someone who was active military when the dependent died.

LOL..
those of us doing research, often overlook the more "current" needs for death certificates, as in estates of people who have died recently.
What I believe you are bumping into is that are you the IMMEDIATE dependent of someone who is military, and just recently died? Dependent in this case would be limited to spouse or children. A descendent (grandchild, gr grandchild) is not a dependent.
Thus, certificates for research purposes don't meet the criteria to have the fee waived.

Sounds like you don't get charged a fee for obtaining a DC for soldiers or veterans or families.
