They are walking and usually have a few words. They are really easy to play with, it shouldn't be too hard.

The little girl will be into everything!! So don't plan on doing homework or talking on the phone untill she is asleep! Have a visit or two with Mom there. Be her helper. Take the little one out to play or in her room to play and keep her entertained. I would recommend you taking a babysitting course at the RED CROSS. It is a wonderful class that will help you get the basics down. You should also think about doing a CPR class if you are going to babysit long term or want to start doing this "full time" . Always remember to ask plenty of questions and have several emergency numbers. It should be a lot of fun! This little one is at the wonderful stage where everything is entertaining! Good Luck!!

I would just go over and visit and play with the child first to see if you're comfortable with her. While you do this, ask a bunch of questions such as:
1. What does your child say?
2. Are you working on potty training yet?
3. What are you child's favorite toys?
4. What does your child eat?
You'll be able to see if the child is walking yet or not. Most kids are, unless there's a developmental delay, at this age. Ask also to change her if she's still in diapers, feed her, fill up a sippie cup, play with her, sing to her, etc. See how she reacts to you. If you feel that you do wish to babysit, I'd look into getting Red Cross certified as a babysitter and take a course on how to properly handle babies and how to do CPR.

I have a son that is 19 months old. My oldest son who is 12 can easily watch him for a period of time while I am outside or on the phone. You will do just fine!!!! They are usually walking by this age and maybe talking some.
They are really quite easy to play with - but they are VERY active at this age. Stay close by and keep an eye on her all the time!!!!! My youngest actually just threw a toy car in the toilet this morning. They are quick and quite smart at this age

Try a "dry run" first (ie watch the child while the mom takes a walk around the block) to see if you think you'll do ok, if the baby is very clingy, etc. Try that a few times to get you used to being on your own with her. MOST 18 month olds can walk and babble alot. Remember, if they're still in diapers, those will be your job if you watch her!!

AWWWWW an 18 month old....my daughter is 19 months. THEY ARE SO MUCH FUN AT THIS AGE! At this age they can understand basic instructions, they'll sit and play, lay down and eat when told. They like musc by now and will dance in front of the tv to dora the explorer! She should be walking by now and talking goodness. they say the funniest things at the darndest times! As far as you being 14 and ready to babysit, it depends on yur maturity! Its not hard, you must keep an eye on almost all of her moves, at this age the lil guys are hella curious!!!! I say go for it! HAVE FUNNNN!
