Certain games can be beat long term with proper strategy (ie. poker, sports betting, blackjack if you count cards).

Certain games can't be beaten long term with any strategy (ie. slot machines, roulette).

It depends on what you do.

Where's he gambling? What game? What strategy does he follow?

These are all questions that will alter the answer. If you play any game at a casino where it's just you against the house, odds are that you will lose. This can be offset by extremely complicated card counting in certain games. But as a rule, the house has a marginal favour, even while the player is playing optimal strategy.

If he is playing a game with a 1:1 payout:payin ratio, e.g. poker with a group where there is no "house" to take a cut, it would all depend on strategy and whatnot.

Lose. While playing the optimal strategy, for say BlackJack, casino hav a 0.5% advantage. So in the long run for every $100 you bet, you lose $0.5. A casino will never give you a 50/50 chance on wining, hence the green 0 in Roulette. Card counting is way to stand a better chance, but the casino's also have methods of preventing this. Unfortuanitly you cant beat the system, it will always catch up to you.

My own luck sorta goes like this:

I go and play for a few hours and I end up wining. The next time I play, I donate, repeat...

That's the greatest part of gambling (or the most seductive) YOU NEVER KNOW!! To say you'll win or lose, you would have it all figured out already, so why play in the first place?

It can go either way.

The best chances is BlackJack though...

More then likely, he will come out on the short end. Most people who did win, win early, or not at all. Gambling can be very addictive, because you keep telling yourself, "I'll win next time," and next time never comes.

lose. Because the odds are that if he should win anything it wont be more than the amount he spent.
This is why Casinos have a ton of money and gamblers do not.
