Don't know about your state, but in the State of Washington, if you don't pay your child support, they can, among other things, take your drivers license.
You can apply for an occupational permit, but don't get caught driving anywhere else..................in short, pay your child support in Washington State.

No, the fact is they can suspend your license so you cannot drive period untill you get the matter cleared up with the courts...

Its not done so you cannot work, it is done so that the impingement and reduction in your freedom shows you that the Government is serious about you taking care of your obligations to both your children and the other parent involved...

It is meant to kick you in the seat of the pants and get you moving on taking care of things and as a wake up call that you are not going to escape your obligations...

Unfortunately you also are going to be having fun (i.e.difficulty it is going to be a pain in the butt) anywhere the community doesn't have a good bus system or if you cannot find a bike or car pool as alternative transportation..

After you start making payments to your child support I recommend you make an appology to the court and repent for not following thru on your obligations to the children and the other parent...

Promise the court (the Judge) you will not lapse on your obligations again in this matter ever...

Then throw yourself on the mercy of the court and plead for a restricted Drivers license... to allow you to drive to and from work, to Dr's appointments and the grocery store period and nothing else...

and stick to that agreement 100% this is your last chance... otherwise they can make your life a living hell...

Another tid bit of advice here is it might be a good idea to find an attorney familiar with these matters to assist you in doing this...

However also be warned absolutely do not do this if you intend on renigging on any part of the agreement with the court...

because not only will they make your life a worse living hell but you may have just put that Attorneys Bar License in jeopardy for aiding and abetting you in a crime...

and Attorneys know other attorneys often pretty good ones they could send after you for even more damaging judgements too

Yes, they can revoke your license, it doesn't stop you from working, it makes it more difficult for you to get to work, and will stay until you are current with your child support. They can also put liens on your vehicles, stopping you from selling them without a release from support enforcement.

Well, to begin with, why would not having a license stop you from working? No, they usually don't go that far. What they will do is attach a percentage of your wages, and take any tax refund you might have coming. If you are behind on child support, call them and see what you can work out with them before they have to take action.

yes they can and they can do more to. child support never goes away. allot of stupid people think if they stay ahead of it til the kid turns 18 it goes away. surprise they will still get you. i know of a guy in his sixties that his kids were all grown up in there 30's. and another state had him picked up on the other side of the us. child support can be set to hi and is not always fair. if your involved with your kids and take care of them financially there are ways around it being to hi. what most loose rs don't understand is that its there own kids there screwing over by not doing the right thing. just do the right thing PAY THE SUPPORT.

Depends on your state, but they usually make every attempt to get cooperation without having to do that. If you are working, then you are probably paying support. Sooooo if you aren't paying they'll take your license because you aren't.

In some states in the US, they can revoke your driver's license. Just because you don't have your driver's license you can still work.

the state and federal government are TIRED of parents not paying for their children, so they passed stronger laws.

YES, they can take somoenes DL for repeated non payment of their children. its a federal law, adopted by all states. they then walk, take a bus, hitch it or bum a ride. its such a pain in the azz, they DONT DO THAT AGAIN.

gone are the days of hiding til the child(ren) are 18, today, arrears are forever.

if your caseworker (or dept) isnt on the ball, pull rank on 'em. write your states Attorney General as well as your states Regional FEDERAL Child Support Office.
