I had on her nerve transposition surgery one week ago on my elbow. I feel pretty good have little pain, numbness, or tingling. How long before I can start typing? Right now I'm using voice activated software. My surgeon is very optimistic and told me to just do what feels comfortable. But I don't want to risk not healing properly. When can I start typing? I have a book contract deadline and this voice activated software is a nuisance compared to regular typing.

I would say that whenever you regain a high level of coordination in your hand, then it should be ok to type. Functional synapses require some time to reestablish in an appropriate fashion, and it could take weeks or months (depending on the individual), but I would just be patient and like your surgeon recommended, just play it by ear and do what feels comfortable.

Or, if coordination in your hand seems to reach a peak and does not progress any further, then that might be the extent of healing, and in that case check with your surgeon to see if it would be ok at that point.

i work in an o.r. and have never heard of an arthroscopic ulnar nerve transposition. every one we do has an incision about 4 inches long. they have to carefully dissect down the nerve, free it up so they can move it and tack it in place in another area so it will no longer be impinged.
