I am relocating to Jacksonville Florida from Huntsville AL. I have been looking into the best way to move my household goods and I am so overwhelmed! A uhaul truck seems like the least expensive option, but how much do they charge for mileage? I have a small two bedroom apartment, and the second bedroom only has a crib and my daughter's toys. Any help would be amazing, I need to move by May 1st and I just cant seem to figure out how to do it!

I would suggest packing as many boxes (large) as you can with your belongings and shipping them to yourself at the new location. For me, it was actually cheaper to ship 8 heavy large boxes than rent a UHaul truck. Plus UHaul's are not all that safe, why risk it.

The cheapest way I have moved in the past was to go to a local grocery store and pick up some free boxes. I then pack everything my self.

After the boxes are packed up moved them all to the spare bedroom. Once you have packed everything up you will get an idea of how much room you need.

(Having a garage sale helps as well getting rid of things that you don't really need any more as well as reduces the amount of stuff you have to move. You can also make some cash to pay for the rental of the truck.)

I have no idea how much stuff you have but I have a 2 bedroom place and moved with your normal things, a couch, bed, dressers, boxes etc. I fit everything is a 10 foot box truck. You just have to really watch how you load the things to make sure that everything fits.

As for prices you just need to call U-Hall or a place like that and they will give you a quote on the different size trucks as well as the availability of them. Then they will tell you about the fees for one way rentals, how old you have to be, if you need to have a credit card, or any deposits involved.

First check with Uhaul about their rates. This is propably the cheapest way to move. Start looking for boxes every where. Grocery stores and liquor store usuall have alot. Even your local nursing home does, they get alot of supplies in boxes.
Get yourself some packing tape and a big black marker. Label every box as to room, kitchen Bathroom, bedroom, etc. Start saving newspapers to wrap things with. You can even wrap some fragile things in clothes. U haul can even fix your car so you can tow it. I Have moved so many times I can't even count them. I used a professional mover to move from Ill. to SC. I only had a few things like a DR set, a couple of tables, a bike and some boxes of clothes. This was 13 years ago and it cost me $1200. The stuff I had would have fit in a small uhaul. I've moved myself since.

Get friends with vans or trucks to help you. Also, go to local stores and ask for boxes to pack your belongings.

If you don't mind towing a trailer then U-haul also has trailers and hitches for your car/truck. that might be cheaper than renting the actual truck
