I had a friend who read an article years ago that water bottles are made up of a plastic material designed for short term use. Its different material than those seen in like Nalgene bottles etc.... She told me that if I kept using water bottles like Aquafina and others that the plastic slowly degrades and I would be injesting it. So when I have the Aquafina bottles or others like it I may use it 4-5 times and then recycle it.
I don't know where she got that article - but that what I heard

Most plastics used for bottled water or soda-pop isnt the greatest plastic. Its only recommended to refil at max 3 times (or something like that). Something about the plastic breaking down and bacteria (even after washing).

Its really a debate - I know plenty of people who reuse bottles made to be disposed for a few days or more. They've never had problems.

Yes, because plastic bottle will produce toxic chemical and is bad for health. However, if you need to use plastic bottle, looked out for a triangle sign imprint on the plastic bottle and there is a number within the triangle and the number should be 5 and above.

I've heard that too, but I refill bottles all the time. The only thing I've noticed is that if you freeze them too many times, they spring leaks.

Plastic bottles are not sterile. Filling the bottle one time probably wouldn't hurt but after that, I would toss it.

It's trouble if you don't totally wash it out with very hot, soapy water between refills, or those cute little bacteria can really pile up...

Yeah, weird huh. I guess toxins build up in there, especially if it is left in your car or something where it can heat up from the sun. If you wash it out with antibacterial soap and water you can reuse it.

Probably because of the bacteria in your mouth.
