A little Judgemental are we?
It may be true that -some- Christians don't know Christ as Christ would have wanted, but to me it is a bit judgemental to go ahead and make that assumption about all Christians (or anyone, for that matter).
And, to me, being judgemental is also not what Christ taught. This is just my opinion, of course.

Even I think this is a statement in need of some qualification.
On the one hand, you'll get answers like this: "What are you going on about?! Jesus Christ said, 'I am the Way...etc.' Christians do understand."
Every "Christian" obviously thinks he "understands Christ;" but of course the mere multiplicity of cults and diversity of dogma and ritual makes it unlikely that they ALL do, unless we agree to reduce religion to some very basic points.
But legitimate history and anthropology confirm that "Christianity" is a synthetic religion composed from the ruins of earlier pagan cults; and "Christ" is a term borrowed from the pre-Christian Gnostics, who viewed it as a "state" attainable by all rather than an office held by a particular historical personage. It was confused with the Jewish idea of "Messiach" owing to the accident that they both mean "Annointed;" and thence results Christian theology. So it's true - no orthodox "Christian" can be said to truly understand the "Christ" idea except in the sense invented by his religion. Of course, that's the "sense" generally understood today; but it's still based on fraud.

I'd say that based on some of the conversations I've had a few hard core Chrisians, I'd have to say you're right.
Based on their comments, words and deeds and what they believe in...such as non christians are bound for hell,,,all gays are bound to hell...all Democrats are destined to the fires of eternal damnation, then they don't have a clue as to who Christ is...at least hot the Christ like mindset I've come to adopt in recent years.
But just because they don't believe as I do, I can't and won't condemn them.
They all believe in the infallability of the Bible..that it's the definitive word of God and not the musings of man. I happen to think differently.

The r eason most 'Christians" don't understand Christ is 1) they refer too often to the old testament which was not written for the 'new creature in Christ" 2) Not enough study is done in the New Testament as to the WORDS OF JESUS- not necessarily the teachings of others, but WHAT JESUS SAID, WHAT JESUS DID, HOW JESUS LOVED. Our lives and the lives of others would be so much greater in Him, if we knew what HE SAID. God did not tell us to quote 'THE BIBLE' but to learn the words of His Son and do what he did, say what he said, love like he loved. When you do these things, you open yourself to the blessings that Christ has for us and the RELATIONSHIP and FELLOWSHIP can grow and be personal. Good question.

If they don't understand Christ, then they aren't Christians are they? By definition Christians are followers of Christ.

Yes, it truly is. Christ himself said that "not everyone who calls me Lord shall enter my Fathers kingdom..." Sadly, too many people think that simply being in Church for an hour a week makes them followers of Christ...

What are you going on about?!
Jesus Christ said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
Christians do understand.

No.
If you read the Bible, Jesus defines his people as those who believed in him.
Since all being Christian means is believing in the Jesus thing, that's the sum total of what all Christians share.
I am more disturbed by Christians who claim to be Biblical literalists who are not Biblically LITERATE.
