Oh good Lord yes! I used to live in a small town with a tiny grocery store. I'd find bottles of salad dressing THREE YEARS out of date, and I bought yogurt once that was several months out of date. They said they'd exchange it for another, but none of the others were in date!

That made me really really picky about dates.

Yes, I do. On everything!! I also continue to look further back on the shelf for something with a date further into the future. Even though it may be good on the store shelf for another week, it may and probably will be on my shelf a little past that!

Dairy especailly needs to be checked, as well as meats. Don't forget jarred items have them too. Mayonaise, etc. And once opened stick it in the fridge!

Absolutely and it's good practice that people do! Foods do expired quickly or may have already expired on the shelf or in the fresh foods section. You don't want to get caught with anything that will go bad!

I work at a grocery store. So yes, I always check the expiry dates.

Always! Once I bought some milk (4 gallons to be exact) and it was past it's pull date. The store refused to refund my money so I got stuck with four gallons of rotten milk. Ever since then I always check the pull date.

On at least half of the groceries I purchase!

I don't worry too much about bread / meat because it is all from THAT day anyhow. Or stuff that has a huge turnover, like the chips and chocolate aisle!

Yes! Especially things that expire quickly like bagged veggies, milk, and yogurt. Things like cereal or soda I don't really worry about, but I still check the date. You never know!

Yes, otherwise, you will end up buying out of date food. Very few stores are doing an effective job of rotating stock.
