We have a skin barrier that stops water loss to the outside - otherwise we would dry out like prunes in the sun very quickly. The dead skin on top of the barrier does dry out if the weather is drying or if the skin is washed with a harsh cleanser. Moisturisers applied to skin replace the water lost from the surface. So why do you think that drinking water is good for skin - I assume you do as near everyone seems to believe this.

Well, you need to drink water to flush out toxins from the body, too. The water you drink goes towards keeping your skin clear, not soft or smooth.

Its just an old rumor.

However, If you really want great skin water can help...

...or it can be your worst enemy.

Dont take long showers because your skin will get dried out...but after a nice shower (5 minutes) while your skin is still moist, apply a moisturizer.

If you wait more than a few minutes after getting out of the shower before applying a moisturizer then the benefits will be gone.

So water is good...but not too much!

Speaking from personal experience- if I don't drink enough water, my skin dries out, my eyeballs get sticky, my lips get chapped, the wrinkles under my eyes become more noticeable, etc. I don't know why, as I agree with everything you've said, but this does hold true in my personal experience.

drinking water helps the body produce fluids that hydatres the skin. the skin is the best indicator of dehydration also water regulates the temperature of the body. the body is like a fluid container, you need fluid to make fluid.

Surely we are CONSTANTLY dehydrating.
- our renal functions need H2O to make urine so we can get rid of various waste products/ poisons, as urine, (if you've ever become incredibly de-hydrated, as I have, you'll know how incredibly ill you become in a very short time ( ill- like dead))
- our cells need water to work/exist.
- our brains are extracting H2O to think all the time
- the skin is probably a low priority here so it is losing H2O
Therefore we need H2O ALL the TIME for EVERY-THING
- including our skin
