im cooking gammon steak tonight for my fella. He wants it with egg so thats fine.

I'm unsure as to how this is cooked? Doesnt it curl in the grill and in a frying pan? how do I stop it from doing that? And what veg will I do? I was thinking of Baby new potatoes partially boiled, finished off in the oven with shallots, mixed herbs, olive oil and garlic, also carrots and garden peas. How does that sound. Im open to suggestions.

Thanks

Get your kitchen scissors and snip all around the gammon steak, this will stop it curling. I would change the garden peas for Corn on the cob or a tin of corn with the juice from a tin of pineapple in it. Sounds dated, but tastes good.
Enjoy.

When cooking gammon you can cook it in either the grill or a pan. It may be better to grill it but when you do remember to cut slits on the outer rim of the fatty part. This will stop the gammon curling up. What I mean is that if you look at the gammon and get some scissors and cut in to a depth of about 1 inch so around the edge you have a about 8-9 slits. Cook for about 4-5 mins on each side so you dont dry the gammon out and make it look like a meaty frisbie Hope this helps

don't over fancify it, gammon steak and egg is a classic and needs either simple boiled potatoes, carrots and peas with it or chips.

cook the gammon steak in a frying pan, it doesn't need a whole lot of cooking and it shouldn't curl up more than a little. don't cook it too high either.

yes that sounds good a tip to stop it curling is to snip it all around the edges, and personally i would loose the carrots and peas,i don't think they go very well with egg, tomatoes instead, use a sharp knife and do zig zags all through the centre, then the tomato will split in two ,grill this under the grill with the gammon have a good meal hope he's greatfull and does the washing up.

Sounds wonderful - peas is definitely a must. I prefer it with thin fries instead of potatoes but a bit unhealthy! To stop it from curling, give the sides a slight cut towards the middle (around 4-5 times around the circumference of the steak). That should help stop it curling up.

To stop it from curling, try cutting slits around the edge of the gammon where the fat is and that should keep it flat. As for Veg, I would keep ot simple with the new potatoes, carrots and peas.

Grill or fry, snip the fat to stop it curling. Without the egg, I would suggest boiled new potatoes and broad beans. Serve with a white sauce flavoured with parsley.

With the egg it's more like breakfast. Hash browned potatoes, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes, and if you must that sauce which is about to go Dutch. (HP).

What you're suggesting sounds lovely but I would have gammon, egg and chips (and perhaps some grilled or roasted tomatoes). If you are frying and not grilling the gammon you can attempt to flatten them but they are likely to curl... Enjoy!

Grill - DON'T fry the gammon steak. Add tomatoes, chips, baked beans and a lightly fried egg and he will love you forever.
Not very healthy but man-magnet grub!

That all sounds fab! If you cut the fat off then it shouldnt curl in the frying pan!! Go for peas as veg with lightly fried tomato!
