I have been married for 12 yrs we got a divroce in 2003 I took him back, march 2006 ,he is Vietnam vet. and has mental problems at times, and I know it will happen again should I not stay with him, its so hard. and he refuses to take his meds!!!

If he wont seek help for his problems, why are you even comptemplating going back to him?! He needs help but so do you - seek a counsilor who can help you sort out your confused feelings. Read your own question - if someone else wrote this and you read it, wouldn't you think to yourself - "well, it's so obvious - hell, no, don't go back to him!"
Let's say he does get help as long as you promise to marry him again. He gets the help, looks like he's doing good; you get married, whammo - he says "we're together and you ain't leaving this time - screw this medicine sh*t". "
Think about it long and hard.
And get a counsilor for YOURSELF.

I haven't been in this position but I read a WONDERFUL book (and I am married to an OIF vet). The book is called Lonely Girls with Burning Eyes. I think you will find it very helpful. Its a memoir about something as you just described.

let him run all over you and love it tell him to spank you and call you Susie(kidding). Vietnam is an excuse for his actions please it was like years ago, yes it might have made him a little paranoid but its no reason to take things out on you. Tell him to go sober all the way

That man is so brave, and if you really love him, you would not leave him like that when he is not in his right mind! He needs you, he really does. Now you hold on to him no matter what happens.
