it depends on the amount of space the orthodontist needs to create to move your teeth in to the desired positions. 2 upper teeth and 2 lower is quite normal.

A good orthodontist will do everything to PRESERVE HEALTHY TEETH.

Get a SECOND OPINION and learn if removing your teeth is really all that necessary.

If you are a kid, ask your parents to take you for a second opinion.

Removing teeth will mess up your occlusion (the meshing of your teeth when you bite) more than the crooked teeth are now.

My grandfather was a pioneering orthodontist and worked very hard to NOT remove healthy teeth when ever possible. Last year I actually met some of his former patients and those elderly folks still HAD THEIR TEETH! One man was eighty-three years old and had strong, straight teeth! My granddad must have done something right.

My grandfather invented the space maintainer and a special alloy used in dental work.

Had 4 teeth pulled and 4 wisdom teeth surgically removed before they grew in.

I got 4 pulled, then ended up getting my wisdom teeth removed later...so a total of 8.

I had four permanent teeth pulled when I was a kid..- you may want to ask the doctor about an expander first, for your mouth- it has a key that you turn one notch a week- my son had that appliance for a few months and did not need his teeth pulled.

well if you have severe over crowding the orthodontist may want to pull a few teeth, but generally none.

Sometimes. I had 4 of mine pulled for braces. It just depends on the situation going on in your mouth.
