(I know pets also need vitamin and nutritional supplements, just as people do, so that's not a concern. They'll get their vits, I promise.)

Anyone who feeds their cats or dogs a homemade diet, please share recipes, advice. Thanks.

I feed my dogs a raw diet. What they get each day varies, and it needs to varied in order to be balanced. Today they'll be getting chicken, ground turkey and some chicken livers.

I encourage you do actually do the research on this before buying into the OMG raw meat will cause this or that. There are risks with everything, look at commercial pet food right now, but with a raw diet if you practice safe meat handling your chances of something bad are very slim. As far as a dog choking on a bone, there isn't one document case of a dog choking on a raw bone and dying, while you can find several cases of dogs choking on kibble and dying.

There is another diet option other than dog food. Some people choose to feed a raw diet. This involves feeding the dog raw meaty bones and organ meat. However it is not as simple as throwing a couple chicken bones in a bowl everyday. If you wish to feed this type of diet, do lots and lots of research first. Switching to this diet without knowing what your doing can lead to nutritional problems for your dog. I'll give you some links as a starting point in research if you are interested in this type of diet.

Interestingly enough, dogs in places like Poland, where commercially prepared pet food in scarce and most dog owners feed their pets leftover cooked meat and vegetable, disease is extremely uncommon.

In North America, where commcercially prepared pet food is commonplace, it's run-of-the-mill for a dog to die of cancer or heart disease. Hmmm...

I have given them rice and chicken or any kind of meat not a lot just to add flavor. you can use bullion's instead. or a can of soup i go with the low salt soups. you can make a large amount put in fridge serve the next day with hot water it takes the chill out not to much water.

many yrs ago when my dog was sick with upset stomach the doctor told me to give chicken and rice.

For a little while I had to cook for one of my dogs because of allergies. I stuck ground turkey or beef in a crockpot with brown rice and veggies and let it cook.
