Well in California a license for cosmetology can be obtained throught the Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Division.

The requirements for a cosmetology license is 1600 hrs of training through a state certified school.

See your local Department of Consumer Affairs.

You can't just go in a pay a fee and get a license, you have to be trained.

Do you mean how many hours a particular state requires? If so, look up your state board of health. Or, call a local cosmetology school.
