Right now a dog is considered private property, though the term may seem offensive to some, we must maintain this status for our dogs. The reason is because the constitution guarantees us equal protection under the law thereby preventing illegal seizure of our private property.

Do you realize that if we beome guardians we lose our rights and our dogs can be taken away for things such as leaving them alone or any false claim that could be made?
So do you agree it is in the best interest of our dogs to be their owner ond not their guardians?

The day i give up ownership of my dog is the day i give away my power to help my dog. No one should be a guardian if they love their animal. By taking away the rights of people, they take away the protection we can give our pets as owners. Remember, when you no longer own your pet, anyone can petition to take your pet from you if they decide in their own mind that you are not fit for any reason regardless of how much merit the complaint may have.

Animal rights have NOTHING to do with animal welfare. One needs look no further than the PETA lawsuit to find out that animal rights activisits care nothing about animals' lives.

Legally, I'm an owner. Respectfully and morally, I'm a guardian. I keep my puppy safe from intruders, (or the rain! lol) I feed her, maintain a roof over her head, and give her everything she needs to be happy. She is spoiled, I will be the first to admit that. But, if something bad happened, (like severely bit my child) I'd also be the first to admit she'd have to go. Sad... But seriously true...

As far as the laws, No authority has a right to take her away from me. It would be MY decision, and my decision alone if she is to go. I also think it's wrong to watch a divorcing couple fight over the guardianship of an animal, no matter how child-like it seems to them!
;o)

The problem lies though with the millions of dog owners who mistreat their animals and have these so called rights. These mistreated dogs should be taken away and not just the suggested surrendering. We do have rights as owners but it should be conditional in the event of mistreatment and neglect.

I took the dog into my life and home. I treat them as if they were part of my family just like one of my children. I have one that sleeps in my bed. and the other two sleep with my daughter and one of my sons in there room. So I guess I can be called a doggy mommy. When I was growing up a neighbour of mine had a collie it had its own room with a bed and ate steaks for dinner. if you ask others I think they will tell you owner.

Both. My dogs have their own life, but I shape it. I also provide shelter, food, water, exercise. But NO ONE better try to take them from me. Also, the Law will come after me if they were to do something wrong. So I am their gaurdian and their "owner". At least until they can vote otherwise. Woof Woof!

I'm both... I know that there is a movement to make us all 'guardians' instead of owners, but, from my viewpoint, you shouldn't take a pet unless you are willing to care for it like you would any human member of your family and see that it lives the healthiest, happiest life it can.
